This reminded me of a story I heard about Nader’s fight with General Motors and had to look it up to see if I was remembering it correctly.

Thinking about it, the difference is he made Trump look weak at a bad moment for him. Schumer and Pelosi did the same chummy NY thing to him in 2018 and got the 1.8 billion omnibus out of it and made him look weak too.
