This story is bonkers. A Pulte ally shared confidential Fannie Mae data with people at Freddie Mac and the people who flagged her behavior were fired.
"Emails reviewed by The Associated Press show that Fannie Mae executives were unnerved about what one called the 'very problematic' disclosure of data by Lauren Smith, the company’s head of marketing, who was acting on Pulte’s behalf." apnews.com/article/fann...

NEW — I spoke to DoorDash about the White House claiming the company's report shows "inflation has been tamed" and whether that's an interpretation one should make. An economist also weighed in, pointing out dictatorships use data obfuscation as a tool, and right now they're "grasping at straws."
WH claims 'inflation tamed,' per DoorDash stats. Company says that's not in its report.
It comes the same week we learned the WH would likely not release key economic reports for October.

I spent a few years with housing as my main or second beat as a reporter and that is absolutely not why housing is expensive. Not even remotely why.
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

"taking jobs from Americans" really gives away the game. This guy just hates immigrants and thinks they don't belong here, and can be treated as sub-humans.
Bovino: "Whether they were criminals or individuals that were taking jobs from Americans -- you name it, that's what they were doing. And I'll tell you what's gonna happen. We're gonna go even harder on the streets. If he releases those 650, we're gonna apprehend 1,650 on the streets of Chicago."

At the same time the NY Times was hyping Hillary Clinton's emails, it had a reporter with emails from Jeffrey Epstein that were highly damaging to Trump.

The more NYT apologists try to minimize this the clearer it becomes that they don't understand why much of the public doesn't trust legacy media.

the "wild conspiracy theory" is just an accurate description of what happened
I don't understand why people have to concoct wild conspiracy theories in order to critique the NYT. I say this as someone who writes for them: there is plenty to critique without making up wild scenarios and insisting they're true!

"Generations of the Times' most significant decision-makers have minimized the actions of fascists and/or put their finger on the scale to the detriment of those fascists' opponents" seems less like a wild conspiracy theory than just a record of what the Times has published for the last 90 years.

This is what happens if you try to have a conversation about science with somebody who either doesn't believe there's such a thing as the truth, or doesn't believe it matters.

It’s exactly this: there’s a level of wealth where you have far more money that would ever be necessary to meet one’s needs or even wants. I think there are a whole lot of wealthy people (not the ultra-rich) who are very happy and largely care free.
Money can't buy me happiness.
But it can buy me a boat.
It can buy me a truck to pull it.
It can buy me a Yeti 110 full of iced down silver bullets.
There a certain kind of poster or justice advocate or theorist who clearly doesn’t believe that “money can’t buy happiness”, and think that it’s just bs to disguise a secret joy and delight and peace that all wealthy and/or powerful people must surely feel.

Sadly, these types are just wrong, lol.

I feel like it shouldn't be this easy to circumvent safeguards on AI systems, yet we see it all the time

The Dems have discovered a wide, sore, festering wound in the MAGA coalition that they could rub salt vigorously into and divide them. Knowing Dems, they almost certainly won’t do this, but they COULD and it would be extremely effective.
Trump's fight with Laura Ingraham over H1-B should be read in this context. MAGA remains fully committed to removing all undocumented and provisionally present immigrants as a demographic reengineering project. This gives Dems a way to split the MAGA coalition.
