Honestly a very weird experience to join a social network in 2023, follow a bunch of people from scratch, and think of them “checking my timeline” and “liking my posts.”
I had this exact book as a kid and read it every day for like a year
the wave of weaponized nostalgia for 90s-style multiculturalism and political correctness is gonna hit different

public consultation results for dedicated transit lanes on bathurst+dufferin. note overwhelming support (75%+ dufferin, 67-68% bathurst) for transit priority+converting parking to transit lanes.

transportation services recommendations + councillor compromises do not reflect what people want.

what on earth
Councilor Cheng says she grew up in Brampton, and the parkades at Kensington Market, St. Clair, the Esplanade and the waterfront were "important assets that were part of my childhood." She urges councillors to "have a sober look" before getting rid of parking lots.

While I am generally anti-doomer, I do feel reasonably confident in my “Canadian teams offended the Old Gods and are destined to lose the Stanley Cup forevermore” take.

After much trepidation, I finally tried the food at "The Fancy Induced Burger," a bizarre fast food joint in the Annex.

Here's what I learned:

Richie Assaly: I couldn’t resist trying this bizarre Toronto novelty burger joint. It filled my belly, but not my soul
Toronto is filled with charmingly bizarre restaurants. But this novelty burger joint left me feeling spiritually depleted.

It’s kind of fucked up how you can teach yourself to read a new language in the privacy and comfort of your own home but to speak it you’ve got to commit to spending several hundred hours embarrassing yourself in public.

Specifically, the problem is that young men are not listening to BBC Four's In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg at the gym.
Starting to believe the biggest determinant in young men's political alignment is how much time they spend working out. Not because like some believe, exercise has some magical effects on mindset. Purely because hours in the gym means lots of time to listen to podcasts.

quick Saturday diversion: I need these people to understand that two of the greatest onramps towards believing in community and respect for other people are sports and playing any sort of games with each other
The thing is that if you really believe they’re Nazis you can’t then say “but they don’t affect too much outside of politics right?”

100% agree; I think of this track as the apex of Stevie Wonder’s four year run of masterpieces, which is a level of uninterrupted virtuosity almost never seen in popular art (at least not in my lifetime.)
kind of convinced this is the greatest pop song ever recorded youtu.be/eLbmdG8U60E?...
