This point absolutely correct and I will add that Mamdani demonstrates that an insurgency, even one with real moral clarity and anger at the status quo, can still be cheerful and inviting.

God I want to see a million “Dems demanding new leadership” articles today, I want it to be a narrative Schumer can’t escape
Democrats are demanding new leadership after Schumer failed to stop a GOP-backed funding deal that doesn't guarantee continued health care subsidies. Progressives like Ro Khanna blasted him for giving in and warned premiums could soar as a result.
Democrats Call for New Leadership After Schumer Caves on “Terrible” GOP Deal
“If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing … what will you fight for?” said Ro Khanna.

How do men live in the world that I love in and not realize that those who are different from them in sex are nonetheless very similar in reason, capacity, intellect, and emotion? The persistence of this delusion is staggering; how much will they inflict on us to hold onto it?

announce your senate campaign now
The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

seriously, how do you raise 2 billion dollars from people, campaign against the literal fascist, lose, then squander any potential good will the voters might've had for your party by literally backing down and ceding every ounce of your power

might as well start primarying them with a leftist party that's willing to fight (DSA, WFP, etc.) in safe blue districts and win. if they try to run a candidate in 2028, just shut it down with an outside candidate as they realize the poll numbers will not be in their favor.

The contrast could hardly be sharper. My friends and neighbors, armed only with whistles and voices, spend their weekend fighting off heavily-armed paramilitary goons. Meanwhile, these jagoffs capitulate, but not before securing another $1 billion for their own security.

the real move if you want to be the presidential nominee in 2028 is to come out and say who did the vote swapping, air the dirty laundry, and say “our voters deserve better” imo. position yourself as the champion of the dem base against the crooked leadership they hate

Just thinking again how Democrats asked people to accept short-term suffering in order to give space to prevent long-term, worse suffering and then said, "Thanks for suffering in the short-term. You'll get to suffer long-term too so that our Thanksgiving plans don't get disrupted."

As a survivor of abuse, I understand the thinking behind appeasing an abuser. You think being cooperative will get them to see you’re good and stop the abuse. But it does the opposite: It teaches them that abusing you gets them what they want. Accommodating abusers only makes abuse worse.

This is absolutely right.

The eight who signed off on this disaster of a deal were acting as a shield for colleagues who are up this cycle. Don't let any of them off the hook just yet.
The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

The key to understanding a lot of US politics is that the unspoken premise on which it all rests is that personhood begins at a certain tax bracket.
Lots going on but from outside it seems that at least part of the calculus was that flight disruption for middle class and up travelers matters more than life disruption for untold numbers who’ll be deprived of health care.
