Hello mortals of Bluesky!

Here’s a master thread of all my death doula/ end-of-life resources. I work mainly with trans folks of all faiths, various flavors of atheist, and various flavors of unsavory magicians.

I can’t walk the whole road with you, but I can help carry the lantern for a while.
Happy #SpookyMonth! I'm spending October rounding up some death doula resources, since so much of the work is either learned through direct practice or just knowing how to find legal resources online.

For October 1st, here's an adaptation of an exercise from "The Devil's Death" by Shiva Honey:
A couple months ago I got an LED-shaft cane to help mitigate some EDS issues and tonight I learned that turning it on to full illumination in a tunnel makes me look like a badass mage.

it's like calling someone who is wheelchair reliant for mobility "accomodated" if there's an "all bodies welcome" sticker in front of a stairway to the lobby of a building and no ramp. they would remain so, so valid if they could get up and walk. and if they can't, that's also valid, somewhere else!

The wonderful thing about Tyggers
Is Tyggers are burning bright
Their tops are made out of rubber
In the forest of the night

What bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy,
Immortal hand or eye
Did frame the most wonderful thing about Tyggers,
Their fearful symmetry!

I suspect I had a very stereotypical view of the South until I moved there, but once you learn the uses of “bless your heart,” and that the default tea is hummingbird food, it’s really pretty normal unless you bring up BBQ sauce. People have some very weird notions about what it’s like.
If people did this shit about anywhere other than the American South- like if someone said they grew up in Kenya and another person was like “I’m so sorry” we would all quite rightly roast them. every place has good and bad qualities. the South isn’t evil

This isn’t the sequel we wanted to Frank Dux’s “The Secret Man,” but it’s absolutely the sequel we deserved.
Elon, trying as hard as possible to sound cool: I was once visiting my girlfriend in Canada and a bear tried to attack her and I fought the bear off using my kung fu skills. The president of Canada gave me a medal for this.

It's funny that Elon, straining toward an aneurysm as hard as possible to sound cool and interesting, ends up going like "I have a real katana stabbed into my bedroom wall near my bed, its fine nipponese steel will be handy in case of assassins. My uncle at Nintendo gave it to me"

Libraries are fucking AWESOME, you guys.

Last night, my local library had a book bedazzling workshop, and I got to make @mskellymhayes.bsky.social's new book sparkly! ✨️

just putting that out there because i get called out for being too compassionate in this area and then called an ai shill which is literally false. this isn’t really about computers to me, it’s watching people get lost using computers like my family got lost using needles and alcohol

i grew up around a lot of addiction which is why i am extending a lot of grace to this group even if they’ll just call me a parasite/consumer vs a producer - or whatever language they’ve created to other themselves. this is what addicts do

i don’t use ai regularly, but i studied it a long time ago and i am a recovering workaholic. you’re probably addicted to feeling productive but that doesn’t mean you are actually productive. how many agentic fitness trackers and image export scripts does the world need.

it may also help to be reminded that the heavily marketed value proposition of ai for all of society is that it will do all the work for us so that we can spend time doing fun hobbies and relaxing - and you’re at ground zero of that tale being exposed as a big fat lie

my grandmother had this old expression. she used to say "every pore is a puncture wound" and, when we asked her what it meant, she always said the same thing "to pluck the great beast is a mercy, for the purpose of the flesh of all things is to be witnessed"

my grandmother was a very, devout, woman

“Most stories of this sort speak of ghosts in terms of an unseen presence. I’ve never felt a need to be that type of believer; tangible absence is a far worse form of haunting, and it’s far easier to achieve.”

The John Wick series is so effective because it fully embodies the three major tenets of dumb guy fantasy: 1. being able to kick anyone’s ass, 2. living by a code of honor, and 3. paying for things with gold coins

As @daedsider.bsky.social has rightly noted, "Once you understand that a driving principle of American politics is there is no such thing as a compassionate solution that's cheap enough or a cruel solution that's too expensive, a lot of things click into place." I think about that a lot. :(
