I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. It's actually really important to revisit media you enjoyed as a child so you can be like "wow uh oof ouch that was not as good as I remember" before the nostalgiamadness sets in. I learned this in my formative years hanging out on Transformers forums in 2007 watching 30-year-olds mad at the movie

Playing console & PC games at home is seen as the default experience, but I'd bet that the majority of people in the 2000s experienced games in these social places, paying by the hour.
It's vastly underrepresented in academia & retrogaming debates but it's key to understanding things like F2P games

I think this clip might be the single best illustration of how unbelievably stupid fascism is.
You see a fake video. You know it's fake, but it makes you feel ways. Good ways. But you don't feel good ways about now. Something is wrong. Clearly it's that foreigners exist. Hurt them! They hide good!

An entire generation of dumbs are getting themselves worked up into a fascist frenzy over inaccurate nostalgia videos they know are complete false and it is terrifying hot profoundly strong these feelings are for them despite being very aware it's fake and bullshit.

Valve just updated their Steam rules to ban content that “may violate rules set by payment processors or banks.” Sounds boring. It’s not. It’s the quiet normalization of financial censorship and it’s going to hurt LGBTQ+ games and devs
