It's been a pretty good year for games, but I think my GOTY is Absolum.
As with all these things, it's context: my kid and I had amazing fun couch co-oping it. Super pretty, very satisfying combat, clever alt paths and a brilliant specials/ upgrade system. Solid 10.

I wrote this miserable article today. But if you want an idea of what’s happening in the games industry, where the job losses are happening, and most crucially why they’re happening, it’s well worth a read.
Although games industry layoffs were down by around a third this year compared to their peak in 2024, studios in the US and Western Europe may have been hit by the trend for jobs moving to emerging markets.

I wrote this miserable article today. But if you want an idea of what’s happening in the games industry, where the job losses are happening, and most crucially why they’re happening, it’s well worth a read.
Forever grateful to the French girl who told me that 'merci beaucoup' means 'thanks a lot' but the way English people often pronounce it is often 'merci, bow-coo' which means "Thanks. Nice arse".
I also want to say thank you to the person who introduced me to the French word 'beaucoup' this year. It means a lot.
