True
The current book ban movement is, at its core, a movement to defund the public good.

The necessary bigotries were a feature of that, not a bug.
“But Josh, aren’t schools and libraries secondary to the fight for democracy, not actually part of it?”

In a better world, Andrea Pitzer would be delivering this warning on 60 Minutes.

But you need to listen to how we can stop these systematic atrocities being committed in our name on Next Comes What.

What’s the best bookstore in Brooklyn to buy cheap old magazines for a zine making event? I’m having a zine-themed birthday party and forcing my friends to make me zines, but I need cheap source materials before Sunday.

ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...

This is the most important one thing to know about NY politics in 2026.

Even though Hochul will win the primary + the general, and many of our Left electeds will endorse her, the rank + file Left must campaign hard and vote against her in the primary to shift the balance of power in the state.
I usually avoid sharing what feels like "inside baseball" political analysis here, but this merits an exception because of the stakes + scale involved.

Zohran isn't "wrong" to endorse Hochul; he has no choice. But for primary voters to back Hochul would definitely be unwise. Let me explain why. 🧵
NEW: Mayor Mamdani is set to endorse Gov. Hochul’s reelection run this week, providing her a critical inroad with progressive voters, per four sources.

It deals a near fatal blow to Antonio Delgado's campaign.

Your lack of attention to Hochul's child care record prior to Zohran's election does not make it true that he has significantly pushed her left on child care. I'm really sorry, but he has not.

Absolutely serious real talk: join the DSA and the Working Families Party if they have chapters in your towns, friends. They're not built up as strongly everywhere, but without them, we would not have Mamdani in NYC right now. Key orgs in this movement.
Lifelong Democrat and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think we need a Tea Party-style takeover of the party. People forget that the "Democratic Party" isn't just the folks holding office, it's the people who elected them that are the party. The folks in Congress seem to have forgotten that.
