I've never done an eligibility post before.

Be gentle. Share and share alike.

Any consideration when it comes time for awards is greatly appreciated.
What in the Cotton Hill.
Decades of the white nationalist movement evolving to adapt to current political trends has brought them to this moment.

I'm not sure I've purchased single book from BookBub this year.

This means Democrats will keep trying to win back Elon Musk and try to get Jensen Huang on stage at the next DNC or something, right?
There’s a funny Politico story showing that the latest polling on AI shows 80-20 in favor of heavy regulations, an absolute slam dunk platform, but Dems are worried about not winning back mask-off tech CEO donors

I love how she clearly wrote this post with AI assistance.

It's always the folks screaming 'you cannot win over AI' who are the ones who gave up and let AI slop overtake them.

I'm sorry you lost the battle, I guess. Not really.

Getting a form rejection on a query seven months later when you forgot you even sent the query is somewhat comedic.

I finished Citizen Sleeper 2 today and what really struck me about the game was how so much of the text felt skippable.

I generally enjoyed the first game, and there was some bloat in it, but not on the level of the second game. My playthrough was about 9 hours and I skipped so much filler.

Today I logged a single KU page read.

To understand this, you need to understand that in September of 2020 I pulled all my books out of KU and never placed them back in.

This person has held onto this book since some point in 2020.

Whenever I reflect back on weekly television that I used to watch and cannot for the life of me remember why, and perhaps feel ashamed, why is it always 2010s FX shows?

shit like this is the core of the damage the social internet has done to us

we have replaced actual expertise with "some dude with a podcast who makes you feel like his buddy while he bullshits into a microphone" and now a ton of people think that measles and chicken pox are the same
Yeah, this dum dum is talking about chicken pox.

Anyway, it's very cool and awesome that he has so much cultural and political influence.

The C2 has been pretty good since its inception, but this year was when absolutely everyone involved just turned up the volume.

Probably the first year where you could argue "What G1?"

This.

You don't need an LLM to do these things. Sometimes they aren't your favorite thing, but it keeps your mind sharp and yourself capable.
Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing a text, writing an email, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing since the dawn of time.

For far too many years, I'd say a bulk of my 'career' as a fiction writer, I did my damnedest to, within my personal taste, 'write to market.'

In truth, I'm an eternally picky person when it comes to things I enjoy. Most of my professional output has not been to my taste. I made money, but...
“Write to the market.”

You’ll never catch the market. By the time you’ve written it, the market is gone. Write what you’re on fire to write, and sometimes the market shows up.
what is your least favorite piece of writing advice and why? 👀

It's really interesting that people are talking about Expedition 33's use of AI prior or whatever, when one of the very first things I said when exploring early dungeons was, "man, I wonder if this game used genAI, because some of these textures don't make sense."

This was apparently when 'fixed.'

And please also, AGAIN, never forget that they are inherently unethical to use because no one gave permission for their research or writing to be used in it. It is all stolen, and if you're using the plagiarism machine, please keep that in mind.
My friends, I say this with all the love in my heart: Right now might not be the moment for “But we should be TOLERANT and NUANCED about the plagiarism machines!”

Your tolerance and “nuance” will be weaponised by the grifters and their apologists. Please respect yourselves more.

Don't you just hate* when you're vehemently against something for years, then go back to it later and can't deny how good it is?

I really just dismissed Daft Punk for years and now one of my sons is really into them, so I gave them a shot, and I'm a total convert.
