One thing I keep thinking about after 28 YEARS LATER is how heavily influenced it is by JG Ballard. Garland already borrowed from Ballard for ANNIHILATION, and I'd say he does again here. The Ralph Fiennes character could be lifted right out of any of Ballard's early environmental apocalypse novels.

Social platforms’ tendency to reward hostile content creates incentives that systematically reward simplistic messages and extreme positions and this fuels populism www.ft.com/content/9251... via @jburnmurdoch.ft.com

Worrying long term hidden fiscal drag

The family income threshold at which English students maintenance loans start to get reduced is just £25,000/yr.

It has been this level since the 2008/2009 academic year. We have had 64% (CPI) inflation since then. So it's been slashed hugely in real terms

it's another information crisis. we've had them before eg after the invention of writing & printing. they overwhelm us with info which makes us upset, angry & afraid. there’s often great working-together, thinking-together on the other side. let’s see if we can avoid bloody wars of Reformation!
