Am guilty of this. Wrote some crime books and went to a cover designer - was told I had to “follow the market” and, lo, three books with “silhouette figure with back to camera, against a moody background”.

What a rube I was.
I am at the fantasy bookstore. There are basically only two book covers nowadays, and that trend started well before gen ai, sadly

Grew up in Suffolk but lived in Stoke for long enough to get (most of) the accent and (most of) the phrasing. I absolutely cherish it.

Things like how you “go the shops” rather than “go to the shops”.
We should have northern sensitivity readers. Or just ban southerners from writing books, either is fine.
Always eye-opening when someone with a southern English accent tries to write a northern English accent "phonetically" revealing what an alien perspective they have of the relationship between sounds and letters

Is there a link for this Open AI story this morning? Just seeing a “per Bloomberg” line and that’s it.

Two things: maybe if we ask nicely there might even be a reprint. Maybe…?

And, two, wonder if any other artists fancy doing this with each other.
It's 20 years since @seanphillips.bsky.social and I exchanged a sketchbook back and forth in the mail, a drawn &painted call and response. INTERSECTIONS may be out of print but here is a flip through that sketchbook. You can still find the book out there :)

I also want to mention ALT TEXT. Now, with a flip of a switch, you too can let other bsky peeps participate in your shenanigans if they have screen readers or don't understand the context of your pix. (who is this person? Why should I care?)

One of the greatest films about art, persistence, effort and ingenuity I can think of.

Fuck AI.

Apparently it's hard for a lot of people to understand that a lot of us use social media SOCIALLY, not to be hot dog faced with every bad opinion on the internet. "What, you don't want to be MAD all the time?" No. No, I do not. I would like to see posts about wrestling, boats, and dogs.
Blocking hatemongers is one thing but this trend of using mass block lists to avoid hearing from people who might or might not hold points of view you expect to disagree with is unhealthy imo and hurts the platform.

Bluesky was better off with folks like Margaret Mitchell and Giada Pistilli on it.

I watched a video but it didn't have a tiktoker superimposed on the bottom third staring at you and making small changes in their facial expressions and pointing upward during the runtime so I don't know what the video was about or how to feel about it

This is the exact expression my cat makes when the dog wakes him up by cold, wet nose insertion.
#DailyGhost
29) DEVIL CAT
The devil came every night and moved the stones intended for a church's construction from Whittle to Leyland until builders gave in and built it there. This devil took the form of a giant cat which attacked any who tried to spy on, or stop it's stone moving.

Despite the headline it’s not George RR Martin personally going for them cos he’s rich and famous. It’s all of us.

The test case used his work, but it’s about the plain-as-day issue that ANY generative AI ignores and infringes copyright, by passing off.

That’s a win for basic law.
Judge rules George R.R. Martin and other authors can sue OpenAI for copyright infringement

• Said ChatGPT generated 'Game of Thrones' content similar enough to infringe copyright

• OpenAI’s motion to dismiss was denied
