Right, I’ve had enough of this silly bloody creative inactivity (of nearly two years!). My room is tidy, I’ve put the heater on (it’s feckin cold in here) I’m lighting nice candles, popping on spooky podcasts & I’m not coming out until I’ve made a start on commissions for friends & family. ENOUGH!

AI usually means Arseholes Involved. It’s a thieving, hollowing and unethical beast of a thing. It has no place in an ethical, decent society. It has no place in Hookland and never will.

Some of my paintings take weeks or (gasp!) months.
The art will tell you what it needs.
Listen to the Art, which is pure and true, and not the capitalist cacophony that compels "content."
Make it honestly and w your human hands & people will notice THAT, not how frequently/infrequently you post. 🖤

Remember: It's normal for full art pieces to take more than a day or two to complete. Some pieces will take longer to complete than others and that's normal.
Social media has warped our perception on how long things actually take to create. You're doing fine. 🤍

'The Divine Dissatisfaction Of Making Art' - Martha Graham
I wrote a blog post about it a long while back:

Does this resonate with you? Martha's quote is one of my favourites, I just love it (see the full quote in the blog post).

We’re off to see The Choral tonight. I’m really looking forward to it because I’m a big geek and I watched them filming it in Saltaire last year and I love Alan Bennett.

Banishing the blues on the allotment this morning. Taps are off and everything looks a bit worn out. I know how it feels. Finding colour and joy wherever I can🌞

Highly recommended. These are both excellent books. I’m struggling to think of a collection of stories that so consistently unnerved me.
I've got a fresh batch of paperbacks in if anyone wants to buy directly from me for Christmas. Same deal as back in July: £13 each, or both for £25, including UK postage.

Was really struck by what a lovely inspiring exercise this is, like a primary school version of Mary Oliver’s Instructions for living a life
Pay attention.
Be astonished.

I heard a rustle in the hedge line, glanced behind me, and there the figure stood. Watching…
(watching the sunset, and then - like all ghosts - heading towards town. Possibly to the chippie)

Reminder to you, to leave leaves on the ground, where they feed the soil and create habitats. They are not untidy they are vital.

I got back to sleep after 5am leaf blower. I dreamt that I hosted a party attended by old illustrator friends, we got into an argument about their use of AI, it got tense & awkward & then I said “can you all just fuck off now please?” & they all scrambled out as if they couldn’t wait to be asked 🤷🏼♂️🫤🥳

It’s 5 in the morning, I can hear someone using a leaf blower somewhere not too far away, it’s also slightly windy. Humans baffle me.
