My pt is yes we can pick out fake news videos today. We can trust our experience today.

We’re going to rely on companies to be trustworthy even when lies are cheaper? Where will trustworthy news come from? Freelancers we know? Through what channel? How will they eat and travel? With whose money?
Enabling the destruction of trust at scale and speed seems bad tho.

Even people with good epistemologies are going to have a hard time when there’s no reliable custody of evidence. Where will we be when all human sensation is subject to a gish-gallop of BS generated faster than discarded?

If you have 100 customers, for example, you probably don’t need a database—a flat file with JSON in it will do. You almost certainly don’t need that slick UI (you need a good UX, but you can often get that with a very simple UI).

Eiichi Ohtaki’s A Long Vacation (1981) is one of the most beloved albums in Japanese pop music.
Ohtaki, born in Iwate Prefecture, blended American pop influences with a uniquely Japanese melodic sensibility.

Gave me a good chuckle. Enjoy!
I mean, if we have cheap solar and storage and no AI, we will be doing ok, whereas on the other hand, having an AI burning oil till we all simultaneously drown and cook on the off-chance that it is benevolent, seems suboptimal.

America putting most of its eggs in the generative AI basket, China going hard into green tech. When history looks back on this period, someone is going to look awfully stupid.

i feel like if you really wanted to encourage people to use alt text, the smart play would be to let people opt-out of seeing no-alt skeets. Not a labeller, but in the AppView or whatever.

they’ll never do it though, they’re too engagement brained now

Trump’s Dept. of Transportation has:
• Scrapped possible limits on train/bus driver hours to keep them from falling asleep
• Delayed a rule to help prevent 9/11-style cockpit takeovers
• Proposed exempting school bus child-restraint systems from crash-protection rules
How Trump’s Transportation Department Is Loosening Safety Rules Meant to Protect the Public
ProPublica has identified dozens of instances in which the Trump administration’s DOT has moved to cut, soften or delay safety regulations for cars, trucks, planes, trains and even oil pipelines. Expe...

I keep saying this but it’s at least very interesting that many doctors didn’t think ADHD persisted into adulthood until you couldn’t buy Ritalin over the counter anymore and most people stopped smoking.
yeah tbh I’d really rather be on ADHD meds and NOT have to develop a two pack a day cigarette habit as someone who’s never smoked before just to function
I guess I can drink twelve coffees a day while chain smoking if you want me to do this in a socially acceptable manner, I just don't see how that's better for my physical or mental health than Vyvanse, y'know?

Imagine, if you will, that NASA updated its website to suggest gravity might not exist, prompting CalTech and CERN to release statements saying, "With great sadness, we can no longer recommend listening to NASA."

This is what's happening in epidemiology.

The New York Times' story about Trump calling for the execution of members of Congress ran on Page 16 today, with an itty-bitty promo on the front about halfway down the page.
No wonder Trump thinks he can get away with anything.

Trump in a room with a very charismatic person results in like half a day of Trump agreeing with everything that person said, so this has the potential to be very, very funny.
