Agreeing to disagree! 👇🏻 Tomorrow I debate @patrick-bernau.de about bureaucracy, following his book presentation.

He will argue that (i) Germany is in bad shape and (ii) most of it is bureaucracy's fault.

I will argue that not (i) and not (ii).

❓🎓Why despite a gender-blind admissions system, equally qualified female students in China are significantly less likely than their male peers to apply to and be admitted to elite universities?❕Social expectations are the real issue

Such a clever mechanism for such a good cause!
If one person gives a euro to Ukraine, the result is €1.

If two people give 2 each, it is €4.

If 3,000 give 3,000 each, it is 9 million.

Let’s coordinate, here 👇

Why Dean Karlan, Chief Economist of USAID resigned yesterday:

"I was ready to rebuild from wherever we ended up to identify the most effective programs, figure out how to get them back in place, and to recommend new awards.

But I received no response. Zero engagement."

Why Dean Karlan, chief economist of USAID, resigned on Tuesday
He was hired in 2022 so the aid agency could get 'more bang for our buck' with its projects. He tried to reach out to help in the rebuilding of the agency. On Tuesday he tendered his resignation.

In Israel, it took civil society to stop Netanyahu's attempt to usurp power via judicial overhaul, not the feckless opposition. CS organized rallies, free teach-ins on college grounds and neighborhood venues, placing signs on highways, and threatening mass disobedience. Lessons here for the USA.
"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
"Then they came for the trade unionists

If you are okay with a felon being the president, at minimum, you should be okay with allowing felons to vote.

„Karen Dynan, who worked in the Treasury Department under Mr. Obama, said economists there were known as “skunks at the garden party” — always showing up to explain why some attractive-sounding program wouldn’t work as intended.“

Relevant to the debate on fact-checking amidst Meta's decision, Adam Szeidl and Ferenc Szucs tell a clear and terrifying story about the power of misinformation and propaganda, and its effects on democratic accountability.
