Bingo. Do not believe them. ICE will still be around and abducting people. Just more quietly.

Signed,

A Cook County, IL resident where it’s STILL happening more than a year after it started.

I’ve tried to tell out-of-towners that one of the low-key traumas of living here is these psychos ignoring all traffic laws. I’ve actually reduced my driving further just to avoid their shittery, but they can cream you on a bike or roll up on sidewalk just as easily.
Just madness out in the streets where these guys throw on their sirens and lights flying through neighborhoods at high speeds. People don't even bother pulling over for them anymore because they just do this all the time.

There really seems to be a lot of kayfabe happening right now. Trump is pretending to de-escalate to placate Dems so they don't demand reform, and Dems are making up fake reforms so they can pretend like they made changes while they vote to fund DHS.

Feds have been ramming people with their cars. No one has murdered them in response.

If the suggestion here is that these officers killed Pretti because of this previous incident, that’s worse. Kicking a tail light is not a capital crime. And we don’t do delayed, extrajudicial executions here.
Okay so I was actually at this encounter, filmed the aftermath, and am briefly visible in this video, and I would point out that what he does here is briefly kick a car twice. ICE beats him up, shoots pepper balls into the crowd, and launches tear gas at everyone else before leaving.
News Movement posted this video of Alex Pretti on Jan 13, showing him spitting at ICE agents and kicking their taillight.

Now conservatives are suggesting this changes things.

That would mean they are suggesting he deserved to be target of an extrajudicial execution.

The video changes nothing.

1/ Warner’s question goes to the heart of it: why is the DNI at a Fulton County ballot raid rooted in Trump’s 2020 grievances? Either there’s a foreign plot she’s hidden from congressional intelligence committees, or she’s putting the IC’s seal on a partisan stunt. Both are disqualifying.

I spent the past week watching a few Facebook Groups Maine X Community and Maine Rising. It’s astonishing at the amount of blatantly false stories being shared and instantly believed. Anyone who tries to fact-check is assaulted with 6th-grade slurs and don’t get me started on the racism.

this is the same principle through which Supreme Court forbid Democrats from requiring states to adopt the ACA Medicaid expansion, except the lever is “lawless paramilitary violence” instead of “financial penalties”
Just, you know, going out on a limb, but if states constitutionally don’t have to act as instruments of federal law enforcement, seems like a campaign of terror against the civilian population to coerce them to do so ought also to be unconstitutional.

the demands schumer laid out, in light of existing rules and current ICE practices, are not a serious effort at modifying ICE’s behavior in any meaningful sense. they’re an attempt to mollify the base with meaningless bullshit without actually changing anything so they can move on to affordability

Sometimes the analysis is good enough that I’m disappointed that it’s on Substack and I therefore can’t link to it and am too exhausted to explain why. Let alone in the context of a piece about the purpose of tech platforms in power structures.
Lots of interesting stuff in this analysis but I especially liked this part on the appeal of AI to the boss class, which goes beyond the (also true) “it allows them to fire more people” bit

Even under SCOTUS's dubious reasoning in Trump v. U.S., there is no scenario in which maneuvering billions of dollars to an offshore account to keep it out of reach from Congress and courts is an "official act." This is all criminal and impeachable.

Of the biggest scandals in US history just this week, I think I’d rank them:

1) Federal paramilitaries invade US city based on racist lies, murder US citizens

2) Slush fund for the president from stolen foreign resources held in Qatar

3) Whatever FBI and DNI are doing re: 2020 election in Georgia
