I remember NABJ’s horrible decision.

Journalist orgs, like the media itself, refused to treat Trump like a hostile invasive organism during his first exposure to our body politic in 2016.

But to fail to do so AGAIN in *2024* after his first term of misrule—and after 1/6/21!—was simply inexcusable.
When I resigned as co-chair of the National Association of Black Journalists convention after their decision to platform Trump, I took a lot of heat for it.

I was told “Black journalists are going to expose his racism and save America”

Today, the Trump regime is arresting Black journalists.

It's near-white out conditions in Chicago as the snow comes down, and tonight's anti-ICE/CBP rally is wrapping up in front of city hall.

But not before the crowd bounces and chants, "I believe that we will win!"

I was inspired to join Maine nurses for a vigil this evening in Portland to honor the life of Alex Pretti. Our state has been through a lot the past couple of weeks but Mainers keep showing up for each other. Nurses do the heavy lifting caring for us, and they always show up for their communities.

Trump is controlling EVERYONE with fear. Politicians, foreign nations, universities, industries. "What if he does something to me?"

Well, what if he does?! Is that the worst thing anyone has ever experienced? Time in jail? A court fight? You lose your job? Is that worth your god-given free will

Trump will sink and become one of the most loathed men on the planet.

Remember every single person who promoted him. The rats will try to jump the ship in the next few months, but make them earn their rise to the top.

(The town protects its own, always. They'll fail up, but make it very hard.)

🚨TONIGHT’S PROTEST IN MINNEAPOLIS IS INSANE:

CNN is STUNNED. Share this widely!

“I've covered many protests… I've not seen a crowd like this before.” It’s 8 degrees. “It is freezing, but nothing, nothing is stopping these people.”

This isn’t a rally. It’s a movement. @calltoactivism.bsky.social

Amazon has cut a combined 28,000 jobs since October. Its CEO made $40M+ in 2024

UPS has announced 78,000 job cuts since last year. Its CEO made $24M.

HP announced up to 6,000 layoffs in November. Its CEO made $21M.

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

Today on Volts: I'm joined by the great @michaelhobbes.bsky.social to discuss "reactionary centrism," an intellectual tendency that's come to dominate US public life. You know the type: would never view themselves as conservative, yet finds voluntary pronoun use vastly more aggravating than fascism.

Student from Minneapolis just spoke at Princeton’s ICE Out rally and said, “my neighbors Renee Good & Alex Pretti were murdered for less than what we’re doing now.” Next a *high schooler* from Trenton described the days she spends doing ICE Watch. If kids can show up and organize you can too.

So that means the murder charge only applies in the state the murder happened and NY doesn’t have the death penalty so he’s only facing life in prison now.

So (speculating) the Feds tried to make up a bullshit charge so they could make sure he’d be executed and it didn’t work.

Drone journalism and generally obtaining footage like this increasingly faces restrictions in the US
* A recent NOTAM bans drone operation within 3000' of DHS assets (read vehicles)
* Restrictions on drone imports (esp DJI) will limit access to drones themselves

Sizeable chunk of the progressive establishment in DC either cheered or looked the other way when Biden rolled out that dumb commission to buy (waste) time. Can’t make the same mistake again.
I don’t think progressives are the problem.

It was Biden who deliberately appointed a “bipartisan commission” to recommend bullshit judicial reforms rather than do anything useful about the packed Court.
