The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

The core problem is that in a state, something has to be sovereign - in a democracy, it is the people - and you can design and tinker as much as you like but there is no way to design around a loss of virtue in that sovereign entity.

I’ve made this point before but the biggest luxury item consumed by the median American voter is racism. It’s the thing they most enjoy when they have nothing else to care about and whenever the economy goes to shit it’s the first thing they let go of to tighten their budgets.
I can’t be the only one that doesn’t give a shit about “illegal immigration” (dubious as that term is). Insofar in that it’s an issue to be addressed beyond - we should help people who want to come to America for a better life. The whole premise on immigration from the right is complete nonsense
