Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Luxon sighted at the back of the queue, catching a ferry back to Auckland from Waiheke this evening. Guess the thunderstorm precluded a helicopter

A better analogy would be:
"Can you imagine if a white Australian walked into Christchurch mosques and killed 51 people? Can you imagine that I as Premier would support white Australians going to Writers' Week and speaking their hateful rhetoric?"

Of course, he would never say this. #auspol #nzpol
I don’t know how Malinauskas is managing to make this even worse. This is a horrendous comment - the false equivalence here is horrific

NZ PSA re Animates:

Don’t buy Playology products that look like this - Indie ate half a lizard tail before I realised what she was doing (she’s fine but monitoring.)
From the online reviews there have been very bad experiences across the range - alarming that Animates is still stocking them.

My first ever job was at a supermarket. I worked with an older gentlemen who must’ve been in his late 70s and while I can’t name the supermarket due to an ongoing legal dispute the guy must be dead by now so I’ll just use his real name: Barnaby.

I appreciate this graphic issued by the NZ Central Sikh Association in response to the Destiny racists for its inspiring message of anti-discrimination, mutual aid and unity across ethnic & faith communities, and also its subtle reminder that Sikhs are known badasses so why would you fuck with them.

Reupping because lots of folks may be in the air and on the road shortly: there's decent emerging science that you can materially reduce the risk of acquiring COVID by (a) taking antihistamines, (b) masking, and (c) using antiviral nasal sprays.

And (b) and (c) also help avoid crappy colds/the flu!
Any nasal spray helps; a (K)N95 helps; antihistamines help (see bsky.app/profile/raha... and the citations upthread), vaccination helps, etc etc.
Antihistamines should be part of a defense in depth strategy and not your only precaution. Did I mention you should be masking? Because you should be masking! That having been said: Because the virus uses the HRH1 receptors to enter cells, keeping those receptors busy reduces the attack vector.
