There's no way she wins the Texas Senate race.
Jasmine Crockett considers Texas U.S. Senate run

The refusal to consider DC Statehood is largely a reluctance to give DC two Senators, which itself is a tacit admission that the United States Senate is an anti-democratic institution.
Statehood for D.C. is an ethical obligation at this point, required to protect the rights of our residents to govern ourselves against such out-of-state troops being sent to patrol our city.
NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.

I don't want to hope again, but yeah, if this holds, then at least AK, KS, IA, and OH are in play again. I don't know about NE and FL, and TX has always been a tough one.

I think Democrats having won statewide in OH, AK, and IA recently enough helps.
TX/AK/KS/IA/OH/NE/FL going down in one year would be like a hammer blow to the Republican psyche
14% national swing is the exact kind of shit that starts knocking over reach senate seats like dominoes

So the lesson is: if Republicans freak out, spend all the money they can in the last two weeks, and get good rural turnout, they can limit Democratic overperformance relative to 2024 to 16 points.

Wisconsin, let’s get to work.

Gotta say, I'm somewhat heartened by the fact that folks are mad that Trump and Hegseth committed war crimes. It's almost certainly an extension of years of pro-Palestinian activism raising the salience of international law in the minds of the average person.

Election prediction:

Van Epps wins by high single digits, let's say 8%. Still an excellent showing for Ds given the partisan lean of the district but I think Behn's chance to actually win was a "sneak one past the goalie" ultra low turnout race and the GOP got enough attention to avoid that

I'm going to just say that it's unlikely that Democrats are going to overperform uniformly across the country. I'm not expecting a blue wave to wash Aftyn Behn into office.

Well I guess thanks at least to the admin for providing a real time illustration of why it’s not only moral and legally necessary to disobey illegal orders, but also practically necessary for self-preservation
Imagine what it does to morale in the military to see the defense secretary hang an admiral out to dry to avoid responsibility for war crimes.

hdjdjne "I stand by him and the combat decisions he has made" nigga weren't they YOUR decisions?
Hegseth is very transparently blaming a Navy admiral for his own decision. Let this be a lesson for every other military officer: The Trump administration will issue unlawful orders, then blame you for following them.

Reminder that "firing on the shipwrecked" is literally THE example used in the DoD War Manual of "a clearly illegal order"
“Leavitt told reporters at the White House press briefing that Hegseth authorized Adm. Frank Bradley to carry out the second strike, which reportedly killed two people who were hanging onto the burning vessel after an initial strike.” Wow. 12/1/25 thehill.com/homenews/562...

Kelly’s acquitting himself in this particular episode fine, but he’s still got bad politics. Pritzker is the better progressive.

For example, one thing that Sen Schiff has done to stand up to attacks on his people is voting to confirm several Trump judges and members of his administration, as recently as an AL district judge on 10/24/25.

“But amanda how is that standing up to attacks on his people” he does it while frowning
When it comes to standing up to attacks on our people and our democracy, my advice is this:

Don't try to do everything. Find one thing you can do to mitigate the harms. If everyone does that, we'll get through this.

In case you’re wondering why Pete Hegseth is freaking out about a congressional video reminding the military not to participate in illegal orders:
To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.
Textbook war crime/extrajudicial killing

"Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck. The Special Operations commander overseeing the Sept. 2 attack ... ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions."
