Thinking about the comic script you want to publish/kickstart in 2026?

Now’s a good time to book me for editorial consulting! My flat rate for a standard-length comic (20-24 pages) is $200.

Reasonable rates for any writing project, like $250 for a sitcom script.

Coming Wednesday!

The answer to the meta-question: what if the co-creator of TMNT co-created his own TMNT pastiche?

It’s the in-universe comic by DRAWING BLOOD protagonist Shane Bookman!

Could you follow all that? I’ll draw a diagram…

I want to say something pithy and offhand about what I just went through, like the sardonic action hero I am. But dear readers, even in this parade of horrors we’re all living through, I wasn’t particularly prepared to be giving CPR to my 93 year old neighbor on a Sunday night.

Yesterday’s thread of deep thoughts and cup-rattling.
Half my timeline is dreadful apocalyptic news and the other half is talented people who can’t pay the rent, looking for help.

I will admit I’m in that second camp, and I hate it. There’s small comfort knowing it’s hitting everyone, from indie artists you haven’t heard of to literal legends. 1/2

I'm boosting myself to say this:

You're going to see people On Here tell you calling electeds doesn't matter. That's not true.

Some are bots. Some are people who like being contrary to be edgy.

But calling moves the needle, especially against a blatantly illegal act by Trump and Co. ACT.
Candid answer - as someone who handled constituent affairs calls for years - while they’re not checking the phone right now, the urgency of the moment is important.

Show them you care enough to make the weekend call, and be counted that way. Staffers will clock and report this upstream.
Is there actually a benefit to leaving a VM now vs getting a staffer on Monday? Can do both but just curious

Not to change the subject, but Chevy Chase is the world’s least interesting man with the least impressive career in show business. Don’t reward him or CNN with your attention.

Here’s the relevant information: he’s an asshole, and always was.

Thanks.

Just in case anyone out there feels like they shouldn’t post art - please do. The constant bullshit from the news is difficult but we can’t allow all of that to stop us from making art and sharing it. That’s all I have to say rn - am planning to enjoy the rest of my weekend working on sketches.

My life has been a fantastic combo platter of terrible and amazing luck. No regrets. I’m 60, and all I ever wanted to be was an old man with great crazy stories and adventures. I may not be able to pay the rent… but that goal? I did accomplish it.
All that to say, I had dinner with Gene Kelly once.
He did. I actually had dinner with him once, when I was 22. I really liked him.

SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN is a perfect movie and an endless joy.

BUT

IT’S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER is deep and rich and sad and beautiful. It is not a parade of joy and fun. It is a rumination on the loss of innocence and disappointment in how life turns out. It’s my real favorite.

I have had dinner with this guy on multiple occasions, including Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

Lovely fellow, as it turns out. Life is funny. You never know who you’ll be friends with…

Tapping the sign. I guess this is the sign now. A throwaway line from a dark comedy about the end of the world.
“All that remains of America is the evidence of its failure.”

Ouch, Fallout. Ouch.

I sat in a packed house once to see 8 1/2 and I was the only one laughing in the first five minutes. The audience was extremely sure it was a homework movie, and couldn’t possibly be a comedy.

Fellini thought it was a comedy…
i feel this way about CITIZEN KANE, which is a very fun and funny movie
People who think Kurosawa is “homework cinema” need to be slapped around a bit.
January 3, 2026 at 4:18 AM
Like any aging film nerd I love Citizen Kane and always have.

I will say that one thing about it has shifted for me as I’ve gotten older.

So… I had a best friend once. Saw him through a couple of divorces. Stood by him.

He abandoned me at a very low point in my life. About a decade ago.

b) The Equally Hottest Girl On The Planet.
