Is the mum in foreground there to wave her husband off,or is she just taking the baby out for a walk or doing shopping? There are other women - seeing off husbands, brothers, sweethearts? It shows the huge sacrifice of what they were leaving behind and the pain of the separation that women felt #WW1

I cannot believe that as an historian of women in #WW1 AND a birder I didn’t know of this woman!
I’ve found her VAD record:she worked as a part-cook at a hospital. Emma Louisa Turner (1867 – 1940) an ornithologist and pioneering bird pjotographer

This looks brilliant. Lots of really good info on birds and calling for people’s input later in the year. You can get more updates by registering your email. It’s for everyone, you don’t have to be an “expert”

In all Honesty, the one with my husband’s family on the beach with a huge teapot is perhaps my very favourite!
I’d love to see others

This #postcard was given to my husband’s uncle Edgar in 1924 by his parents when he was about 5 years old. Seems a bit odd .. it’s a bit grown up and when were #NewYears cards a thing for kids!!??? My mum in law was born later that year. #FamilyHistory

Did quite a walk to get to this museum only to find it closed. Judging by the sign and the state of the walls I think the tourist ‘guide’ for the island was a bit out of date!
