The building has one of the finest Pre-Conquest towers in the north of England. Its two lower sections date from the first half of the eleventh century, while the top section is a later, Norman addition.
Sadly, the church is only occasionally open.

This is a huge memorial in Stonegrave parish church #Yorkshire
Apparently the text is Hebrew and says
Shoshana will rise
Daughter of the world to come
Never seen Hebrew in a Christian church before.
#churchcrawling

The memorial is to a Susanna

A lovely very interesting church

I saw two completely different church organs today. One was the more ‘ traditional’ model (Hoverington) and the other (St Mary’s Old Malton) Yorkshire looked incredibly modern and I loved it!

These striking First World War commemorative windows can be found in the #Victorian Christ Church, Rossett, on the #Wrexham and #Cheshire border. The glass was designed by A J Davies in 1925. I like the fact that they pay tribute to the healers as well as to the fighters.

Two panels commemorating the contribution of Black American soldiers towards the liberation of the Netherlands in World War Two have been quietly removed from a cemetery in Limburg. It follows a complaint by right-wing think tank The Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission.

There was a big display in our library under the theme “Lest we forget”
About a dozen war books
None featuring women
I went and found testament of youth and stuck it right in the middle of the display
Well, honestly…..

Sister Jessie McRobbie died #OTD in 1918 and was buried in Crieff cemetery on Armistice Day, with a service being conducted by Rev Andrew Campbell. His thoughts are below - from his book, ’Crieff in the Great War’. We’ve been unable to find a photo of Jessie.
