This is exactly the problem with a majoritarian democracy split along two party lines. Multi-party coalitions are more democratic. The US is no longer a LIBERAL democracy. It is an AUTHORITARIAN democracy. Trump is playing havoc with a norms-based political system. Not enough checks to power.

💯

Indeed. But without guardrails any future leader could do the same. It’s like the pardon system is a metaphor for the checks and balances weaknesses of the American system of federal government.

Yes. And honour doesn’t cut it when the leader is the antithesis of presidential.

I’m not American, so excuse my indignation.

The pardon system is a joke. It allows authoritarians to reward criminals. It’s a Mafia mob boss leader’s wet dream.

Visualising Elon Musk's record-breaking pay deal
Elon Musk's latest pay package has just been approved, which will make him the world's first trillionaire in the next 10 years. How can one person wield such tremendous wealth?

Remember the time Obama personally caught a fainting woman during his speech — rather than just blankly staring like a sociopath?

Character isn't something you tell people about.

It's something you live.
I always find it interesting how the story changes when a lawyer gets to court. They can say anything they want outside of court without accountability but the rules are vastly different in court where you can get seriously penalized for lying.

Ghazala Hashmi (D) has been elected Lt. Governor of Virginia, the first Muslim American to be elected to any statewide office at lieutenant governor and above.

Exactly. CBS is basically now a Trump platform. If they don’t play ball he litigates. And they cowardly pay out. It’s sickening. And to go even further, allowing Trump to edit their broadcast is akin to Putin editing an interview with Pravda.

He probably threatened to sue if they didn’t play ball. Not that he had grounds to sue, it’s more that he’s like a mafia boss that makes others cower. The secret to dealing with Trump is to STAND UP TO HIM. Bullies get their way when those who could choose to stand up bend the knee.

Walmart, McDonalds and Amazon are the largest employers of people who require SNAP assistance.

The CEOs earned between 18-40 million last year, 1000x their median employee income.

They took billions in profits, while their workers relied on SNAP to survive.

Wanna fix fraud and abuse?

Fix that.

The White House says it’ll partially fund SNAP, but didn’t say how much or when after two judges ruled. Judges shouldn’t have to remind presidents to follow the law and to feed people.

This guy is brilliant 🤣
In a way, I find the authoritarian takeover of our media system even more disturbing than the authoritarian takeover of our political system.

Our political system has been failing basically my entire adult life. But, the media system provided accountability and sort of worked. Now it’s collapsing.
Anyway, we need some joy, so here's the Egyptian foreign minister being given a Lego Pyramid by the Danish foreign minister.
