I am British and grumpy. Tories, Brexit and most other things make me grumpy. I am a ridiculous blue rectangle in a silly green hat and I demand that you take me seriously!

Born 1970s. Unable to age verify.

I should have a pinned skeet so that people will take me seriously. That's how this works, right?

Is it a good or a bad thing that I look at the coverage of the New Year Honours and my first thought is to be relieved not to spot any outright Nazis listed? The King seems to have done a better job, in that respect, than "Labour" and the Tories did when appointing their new Lords.

I see that the Daily Telegraph wants to bring back the rum ration to improve "morale".
What other Dickensian practices could we bring back in the name of "morale"? The penny lick? Town gas? The Great Stink? Actually, I think the Telegraph has already got that last one covered.

There's no oscillation. A program designed to force a white supremacist society to include people who are being unnaturally restricted is not discriminatory, and is good.

White christian conservatives wouldn't be able to handle actual discrimination. They can't even handle equality. Weak.

Keir Starmer was the model for centrists and popularists who insisted that moving right on issues, especially immigration, is how you win at politics.

Wonder if there will ever be any self-reflection here! Ah well nevertheless

It was never really about cutting overall spending - that was the grift. It was destroying disliked programs, securing lucrative contracts, stealing valuable data, and further decreasing trust in government - all of which were quite successful

you do not and should not hand it to MTG under any circumstances

it is useful for us, politically, that she's broken with Trump - because "Rs in Disarray" is a good narrative

but she herself is still a vicious antisemite and transphobe and nobody progressive should lose sight of that
Should also add that right before she quit, Marjorie Taylor Greene passed a bill through the House to ban gender-affirming care for minors. She is not a moderate. She is still super right wing. She just felt Trump no longer could accomplish her goals.

They had guys like Bovino and Hegseth in the 12th Century too, and they were smart enough to tell them "Wow what brave heroes you are, wanna do brave hero stuff?" and send them away to die outside Byzantium because the Pisans were like "Yeah sure we'll provide the ships" and didn't.

Roz is absolutely correct.

Deprivation of citizenship should not be a matter for mere ministerial discretion (with light touch judicial review).

In the extreme circumstances when it can happen, the determination should be made by a tribunal, where government and citizen can make their cases.
It should never be possible for any minister to revoke citizenship with a stroke of the pen. #checks #balances

This, combined with "vice signaling" (taking pride in antisocial behavior) has given us the reign of the Stupid Asshole, something most people are against, but can only be remedied if we're not too polite to talk about it
An essential development over the past decade-plus is that the ignorant went from feeling chastened when their ignorance was revealed to banding together and deciding that, actually, they were right. They might disagree at times, but they agreed that ignorance itself was an indicator of trust.

My usual reminder that “we’re gonna file a lawsuit” isn’t news. That’s a press release. “We filed a lawsuit and here’s the complaint” is news.

Yeah, this dum dum is talking about chicken pox.

A nice thread in which an actual expert patiently explains why the Secretary of Health and Human Service is not simply a liar, but an especially stupid one.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has stated that the 1918 flu pandemic was caused by a lab virus from vaccine research, a defective influenza vaccine. Let’s analyze what a lie this is. First, in 1918, 107 years ago, virology was in its infancy
