Minneapolis has FIFTY YEARS of inclusive laws protecting trans people, allowing them to self-identify, and ZERO cases of trans people attacking women in the bathroom. ZERO. Over FIFTY YEARS.
The narrative is that trans people will harm and harass people in the bathroom, but it almost always is actually like this case where the aggressor is the transphobe confronting the trans person. It's ridiculous. They want to kick "undesirables" out from public life entirely, if they could.

Don't you want people in the world who do the hard work and introspection to discover their authentic selves, then are brave enough to be the person that makes them happiest with themselves? One who is proud to live their truth?

Trans people make this world a better place.

I don't know what to make of where things are going in Fionna and Cake. So many small plot elements still up in the air, and the biggest ones are elided over (Finn) or overplayed (Fionna). The show doesn't seem to have a fix on what it finally wants to say. Lots of good elements, nothing cohesive.

I might've just turned someone on to discovering The Hold Steady, so that's my good deed for the day.

I am not anti-fascist, I am pro liberation. To be pro liberation means you must defeat fascism, but it also means that you fight to create a world that is liberated for all, not just against the thing that is currently harming you.

This is such a hack answer, but reading Infinite Jest really exploded my understanding of and empathy around the issues of depression and addiction! It legitimately made me a better person!
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

No matter how hard people try to convince us having empathy is wrong,

it is right.

No matter how hard people try to convince us that diversity is a weakness,

it is a strength.

No matter how hard people try to convince us that love is limited,

it is unlimited.

Hi, I’m God.

Jesus and I agree that starving the poor so you can build yourself golden bathrooms and golden ballrooms is evil. Anyone who does that shall burn for eternity. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Thanks,

God

Doesn't everyone want to feel happier? To see more people happier? Just, every day around us? Why does this country so eagerly embrace division, anger, persecution, unkindness, greed and ludicrous ideas of supremacy...when that's all so exhausting, and doesn't bring happiness to everyone??

I'm so sick of discourse from supposed allies about where trans people went wrong.

Where we "went wrong" is that billionaires spent unimaginably large sums to attack us repeatedly and major media outlets have spent a decade piling on.

Take note of all these people turning out for protests in small towns in red states.

Remember them the next time you’re inclined to write an area off because “they voted for this.”

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

This is the right tone to take. Not only does American Fascism deserve derision and unmistakeable refutation, which this silly dance party does well. It also inspires real communal joy and connection alongside acts of defiance. Joy deserves to be a big part of pushback against tyranny.
