Hey y’all are doing that thing again where you’re relentlessly bullying a young woman for her appearance… and you won’t stop until they’re completely broken, then act like it wasn’t you and start making their mental health recovery part of your online identity.

Stop it.

Fantasy novel recs will go out of their way to warn you whether the protagonist is an authorial self-insert when what they should REALLY be red flagging is whether there's an author's-high-school-crush-they're-still-hung-up-on-even-though-they're-like-thirty-insert.

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

It's my mom's seventh year of sobriety.

It cost my family their idea of having a relationship with me.

AND WEAR A FUCKING MASK
I really, really hope everyone posting about having a cold or the flu feels better soon, but I really, really, REALLY hope you're all testing for Covid. Even if it wouldn't change how you treat yourself, it could make a difference in how dangerous you are to others. Please test & isolate if needed!

So often the answer to essays like this is “if we just had *more* representation, this one major character wouldn’t have to carry water for an entire diaspora”

I’m unclear about the metric for “better rep” in this instance. Oftentimes these pleas direct the narratives toward some notion of what depictions of asianness, especially diasporic ones, are more or less genuine than others, which always bugs me.

I like the essay, but I just tend to disagree with “representation could be better” pop culture critique pieces where the thesis doesn’t admit that it believes better representation is predicated on how much culturally specific grievance is depicted, generally.

I noticed whenever a show/movie decides to have these quiet, introspective moments like in Eternals, The Acolyte, or even Andor, that’s when people decide to call it “slow” or poorly written. It’s like no, you’ve just conditioned yourself to see action moments as the only valid thing.

Politicians introduced 96 bills targeting transgender student athletes in 2025.

That’s more than 9x the number of trans people playing college sports nationally.

Jackie Chan is excellent and returns to form in this intense cat n’ mouse action thriller with slick direction by Larry Yang. Fun supporting cast with a sadistic Tony Leung having a blast. Grounded brutal and violent hard hitting action that suits an older JC and Leung perfectly.

In order to come up with new ideas, use the system that does nothing more than gathers preexisting ideas? I know the jokes write themselves but someone got paid for this

America, you have spoken loud and clear: You do not like AI. But what if AI is the way to restart the world’s idea machine?
We’re running out of good ideas. AI might be how we find new ones.
What if the best use of AI is restarting the world’s idea machine?

I say his gently, but…

There’s something unspeakably shameful The United States letting people go hungry.

Not because its government doesn’t fix it —

but because tomorrow a few private Americans could, and never notice the cost.

That’s the part that sits wrong.
