I think it's also shows a kind of inability to actually engage with the specificity of the genre. star wars aren't just action movies, they are Space Operas with a long history of somber slow quiet moments where the audience just sits with a character

a show Being That, is good actually.
I noticed whenever a show/movie decides to have these quiet, introspective moments like in Eternals, The Acolyte, or even Andor, that’s when people decide to call it “slow” or poorly written. It’s like no, you’ve just conditioned yourself to see action moments as the only valid thing.

thinking about how much I love Eternals and how it's possibly one of the best - if not the best - love story that MCU has produced so far.

I mean personally I’m inclined to believe that badly written when applied to Star Wars is a dogwhistle. Yes it does have its truthful moments but by and large it’s said by people who’d side with the CIS, republic or empire. Yes, republic included, cus they’re the baddies, and so is the other side…

People have forgotten how to breathe; anything loud has always needed to be accompanied with the quiet parts.

Good to know, we gotta report their new name every-time they rebrand in every era
Did yall know the KKK is rebranding??? They're calling themselves the Knight Party. The Grand Wizard is now called "the national director".

Proving my point because that whole movie was people TALKING 💀
Slowness isn’t why Eternals is poorly written. It’s a two hour movie in which zero characters have a conversation, decision, or interaction that feels remotely human or interesting.

It’s a story without a protagonist or even a coherent point of view. It felt like it was written by ChatGPT

I loved The Acolyte, and I'm really interested in how directors depict introspection. Instead of handing the inner thoughts over to the viewer through a narrator, the easy route, how do they show internal wires being rearranged without explicitly saying it?

Personal opinion. Anything slightly intellectual or beyond surface level is not only beyond many people, it literally annoys or outright angers them. It just doesn't click for them. The violence clicks.

Another example of what I mean in my last post of what happens when you become conditioned to consume art rather than engage with it.

When I first started reading comic books as a teenager, I would go through several issues of X-Men before they'd even be in costume, let alone be actively battling someone. Eventually, I realized character development mattered, as did slowing down to let the big moments sit.

i have found a few times in recent years esp around certain fandom franchises that "bad writing" is cited by students rather than toxic fan cultures/review bombing etc. yet, when I (in good faith!) ask for specifics and examples to back up the claim for revision, no example is ever given.
