I need a mood booster, let's talk about capybaras.

Here's a capy demonstrating one of MANY ways they can move through the water: running along the bottom.

They're 'semi-aquatic' mammals, just like hippos, seals & beavers. They LOVE water.

We don't have the disability education infrastructure to support a growing number of kids who are going to be disabled because their parents didn't get them vaccines against illnesses that can lead to the development of disabilities.

I had meningitis in high school and was in a coma for several days. When I came back I had to relearn how to read fucking compound sentences bc my working memory was broken.

Vaccinate your fucking kids.
This is purpura fulminans, a severe complication of meningitis (which as of today is no longer on our universal vaccine schedule)

Micro clots & bleeding into the skin cause skin & tissue death. It’s more common in kids & associated with 20-70% mortality.

Those who survive often lose limbs.

If you want to know who took all of your money, it's the people with all of the money. Famously, we know that's people working in child care.

A must read.
Typically, I read & enjoy McSweeney's for the sharp jokey critique of our modern world. Festive gourds, fonts that have personality & big opinions

Rarely does McSweeney's cut to the absolute goddamn truth in a non-humorist way. As the mom of a neurodivergent kid, I stand with Anaïs. Come with us.

When TriMet announced the first round of service cuts last summer year they told us the worst was yet to come. Now that the second round has been announced, we get an even stronger taste of what they meant.

When I first started using Kagi, I thought unpersonalised search would be a problem; but I’ve been a user for over a year and the results are consistently better than google’s

Turns out search personalisation might have been of benefits to advertisers, not users, all along?
With Kagi, you pay for search instead of paying with your data. Kagi does not attach search queries to user accounts, does not load any analytics or telemetry, and does not track which search results you choose to pick, keeping your searches private and anonymous.

We know that at least 50 people have died trying to use Tesla's driving automation the way Elon Musk advertises it, but we have no idea how many people have had to bear the non-lethal consequences of believing his wildly misleading safety claims... based on Tesla's insurance costs, it seems bad tho

So much history just vanished. Mare Island was the first U.S. Pacific naval base, building and repairing ships for 140+ years and shaping our Bay Area maritime identity. Now its dry dock closes, laying off decades of skilled workers and shelving a living piece of our heritage.

Not sure how bad the deepfake problem is? Read Stella's farewell thread.

This is an extreme form of remote sexual harassment that can now be used to target anyone, regardless of platform, in seconds. Despite news stories focusing mostly on CSAM it's still unchecked and rampant on Twitter.
I‘m discontinuing my social media use for the foreseeable future and I want to explain why.

I woke up in the new year to discover that some guy on here had saved photos I took on New Year’s Eve and used Grok to remove my clothes. I know this because he showed me.
