pregnancy in many red states is now a life-threatening condition
ProPublica has found multiple cases of women with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions.

Tierra Walker, a 37-year-old mother, was told by doctors there was no emergency before preeclampsia killed her.

Great idea. An open source Yahoo, so to speak.
I actually think it's time to bring back the approach of curated lists and webrings from the early web again. Huge opportunity space for hand curation of information
In an age where AI slop websites have made entire categories of information difficult to find, what we need is Yahoo (or Dmoz): a human-curated list of reliable websites, organized by topic.

The dork who gave Musk this lousy idea is an old nemesis of mine. I have few enemies, and wouldn’t label even this dude an enemy—it would be making him far more consequential in my life than he’s been. Still. The way this one rotten idea fast-tracked Twitter’s enshittification is worth noting. 1/2
I still maintain the single worst change Elon made in terms of pure user experience was updating replies to favor the people willing to pay for the blue checks

instantly - overnight - reply sections changed from a font of creative riffing to a barren wasteland of the worst posts imaginable
I left twitter a year ago and I wish I could say it was for moral reasons but it was mostly because it just stopped working and it felt like there were more real people here despite the smaller user base

The words “Locked and loaded” coming from the mouth of an unstable, manic man with access to weapons would trigger an immediate 72-hour psychiatric hold if his family brought him to an emergency room worried about the possibility of violence.
The worst possible move.

Another war.

Delete X. Get rid of it. The entire existence of that company has become an obscenity.
Child exploitation content on X/Twitter sharply increased under Musk, who not only abruptly disbanded the group of volunteer experts advising the platform on child safety, image exploitation, and other abuses in 2022, but tried to blame them for the company's CSAM problem www.npr.org/2022/12/12/1...

Despite what we are often told, this line from Mamdani’s inauguration speech is what true pragmatism actually looks like:

“Beginning today, we will govern expansively and audaciously. We may not always succeed. But never will we be accused of lacking the courage to try.”

A brilliant opening maneuver. Framing his predecessor's tenure as aberrant and illegitimate is both totally reasonable and creates room for radical change.
I was wondering what Mamdani's first executive order would be, and I'm not disappointed by this.

He has wiped off the books EVERY Eric Adams executive order issued on or after September 26, 2024, the day Adams was indicted on federal bribery charges.

what I love about personal websites is how they are allowed to evolve organically without nonsense processes and sign off

I just removed a load of crap from mine that was no longer serving any purpose

and now the much needed redesign can begin (in iterations to make me feel something)

Sitting on a Quest Diagnostics medical sample
Box in a deserted office hallway after arriving 25 minutes early for a physical therapy session; waiting for my PT to show up and unlock the office. Not complaining! It’s bitter cold in NYC today. Grateful I was able to slip into the building to wait.

Find me the conservative parents with kids in daycare who would be okay with a group of anonymous men, some masked, some with cameras, being allowed without their permission into their kid’s daycare in the middle of the day to *film their kids*.

Find me one.
