You are kidding yourself if you think OpenAI won't be charging for ChatGPT to generate CSAM for pay in a few months. They already charge money for a product that tells kids to self harm, they already have a product that generates "adult content", they already lobby against any AI regulation.

I understand a lot of people genuinely struggle with social relationships, but unfortunately that’s the price of living in a world where good thinking is often a collaborative endeavor. You are not thinking collaboratively with an LLM because the LLM is not thinking at all.

People not in the US routinely downplay the degree to which law enforcement in this country is willing to kill us.

In grad school I referenced this analysis that found that cops in the US kill more people than "criminals" do in other countries. And that's routine.

Universities are increasingly jumping on the "one price course materials" scam in which students all pay the same fee and have access to digital versions of their reading. Maybe this is a good idea in a world where the biochem text is $250. I hate it for specific reasons. >

Anyone who follows BBC sport knows there are still plenty of male presenters.

All this really means - given 'Big Beasts' is a term wholly in the eye of the beholder - is that Simon, though unable to articulate it in a way that doesn't make him seem like a total loser, thinks all the men are crap.

Unpleasant but not so shocking when you consider how UK universities these days are run more like businesses than institutions of research & learning. Management will inevitably focus on protecting the bottom line, principles be damned.

Even ignoring that she probably hasn’t had a mortgage to pay since the mid-1990s, I refuse to believe that someone who’s voted Labour since they were actually a left-wing party would react this way to a tax amounting to a maximum of 0.125% of the property value that can be deferred until sale.

Scotland’s largest university has turned to Nous Group at the same time as it is making savings that could lead to nearly 2,000 job losses. Staff say they were misled about the extent of its work.

The real problem is that administrators view faculty as problems to be solved, too, rather than as colleagues and certainly not as allies. This narrow posture has reinforced their bunker mentality, keeping them from aligning with faculty, consulting world experts among us, and being united.

Killing IMLS could have killed ILL.
