A reminder: there is not a single housing market in America—not one city, state, or county—where someone relying on SSI can afford a one-bedroom apartment.

Deaths like these are always preceded by engineered abandonment. Disproportionate homelessness among people with disabilities is no accident.
High rents outpace federal disability payments, leaving many homeless
Supplemental Security Income, a federal program meant to be a financial floor for people unable to work, hasn't kept pace with inflation. Many recipients are homeless, unable to save for an apartment.

And sugar was a key component of Canada's participation in the Transatlantic Slave Trade (aside from having enslaved Africans here too) - sugar and rum from the Caribbean were traded for trash scraps of codfish from Atlantic provinces, to provide a cheap protein source for enslaved people.
For those interested in why Black & Caribbean people are going off about the sugar cane from last night's halftime show: sugar is a plantation commodity that fueled slavery & colonialism

A “March for Billionaires” took place in San Francisco this weekend. Yes—an organized rally in defense of the ultrarich.

At a time of rising housing, health and child care costs, the billionaires who pay less in effective taxes than working families do not need more advocacy.
Yes, there really was a 'March for Billionaires' rally in San Francisco
The march drew only about a dozen participants, but organizer Derik Kauffman said it was meant to be a sincere protest against a potential new tax on the state's wealthiest residents.

Yes, it is derived from Thanatos, the Ancient Greek Daimon of Death (the daimones were minor spiritual creatures with much in common with Gods but less power)
I recently learned about about Thanatology, the study of death, and began to wonder if that is where the character name Thanos is derived.

It also points out how the cultural ignorance of much of our pundit & MSM class fails. 135 million Americans watched an important & controversial cultural event & many journalists are 1)ill-equipped to explain its significance or 2) too arrogant to know that would need assistance in unpacking it.
Bad Bunny’s performance began in the plantation, featured broken electric poles, and ended by centering a hemispheric understanding of “América”—among many other things—and some Anglo journalists are like “his performance wasn’t political.”

This is why we need to be telling our stories.
