My job remains designing situations within which it is both desirable and possible to become more human, more capable of thinking and asking questions, more capable of being alive with others, on earth
just useful to remember there is no landmass where any human can be "illegally". people belong on earth. everywhere on earth

You need to read this one. ICE detained two observers. The agent driving the vehicle started having seizures. The women asked to be uncuffed and gave him aid. After EMS arrived, the women were still taken to Whipple. www.startribune.com/detained-by-...

The women say they guided agents through the emergency, later raising concerns about medical protocols, weapons safety and accountability.

The fact of the matter is: a severe #IceStorm is developing across much of the country at this very moment, with potentially devastating and far-reaching consequences extending far beyond the region of maximum #ice concentration. Watch out for the #ice, and help your neighbors weather the storm.
CNN: DHS officials have come to FEMA staff and told them to limit the use of the word ice…they are worried that by posting something like, watch out for the ice, that it's going to become a meme….

Today in Los Angeles, we joined the nation to send a clear message to the Trump administration:

WE WANT ICE OUT.

Out of our workplaces.

Out of our communities.

Our bosses didn't show up. 🧵

Counterpoint: that kind of thing doesn't play as well in Minnesota as it does elsewhere. Politicians who shove their way to the front of a protest are perceived as trying to steal the thunder of the real organizers, and Minneapolis is a city of organizers. So a lot of local pols tend to hang back.
imagine seeing these ICE protests today and you as a potential governor or senator or national democratic candidate didn't push babies out of the way to get to the front of the march

yall really bad at retail politics and seizing the moment huh

IMO size of today's protest makes it all the more annoying/amusing that various national pundits and politicians have been using the term "protesters" for random people blowing whistles when ICE shows up on their street

That's being neighborly. But if you want to see a protest, TODAY was a protest

I'm not one for false optimism. But what I witnessed today in Minneapolis was tremendous, both in scale and exuberance. It was a stunning answer to the federal assault on Minnesota, a show of solidarity that gives us something to hold on to during times that are unforgiving.
“Everybody Showed Up”: Stunning Crowds at Minnesota Day of Strike and Shutdown Against ICE
Extreme cold didn't stop the shutdown on Friday as some 100 faith leaders were arrested, residents stayed home from work, and an estimated 50,000 or more marched through downtown Minneapolis.

Two women trained as first responders were abducted by three ICE agents. One of the agents starts seizing. The other two don’t know what to do. The women jump into action and save the agent’s life, only to be re-handcuffed and processed.

Largely this is a customer testimonial to a company’s responsibility. Personally I’m skeptical that the backend loses the data, but that’s just my own cynicism.
More relevant is that this is less a warning against an abdication of scholarly probity (which it is) than it is a caveat for users.

So absolutely deride the author. But the bigger picture here is that these confessionals are not apologies; they’re permissions with instructions.

The reaction to this story has been mockery. Well deserved too. But the bigger question is why is Nature publishing this? Editorial decisions determine whether someone gets to publish on their site. After we get through the delightful Schadenfreude, it’s good to notice how this piece concludes +

Here in Minnesota we are organized and we love our neighbors, no matter where they come from. Today we are showing that with a general strike. Join us so we can show the world what Minnesota is all about.

I'm looking for a ~comprehensive overview of current anti-ICE activism in MSP to assign in my class. A kind of explainer that covers the ICE watching, mutual aid, strike, court cases, etc. I have sources for some components, but not an overview of them together.

If such a thing exists 🙏 for ideas!

(1) Another data point indicating when institutions stand up for their rights, and the rights of their people, the administration folds

(2) Because so many institutions preemptively dropped even efforts that could be construed as DEI-related, the administration was able to accomplish its main goal
