During my undergrad, I joined a murder mystery club. We took turns hosting dinners and acted out our characters all night. Some attendees were complete strangers whose names I never knew, only their characters - I was studying off campus, so rarely crossed paths with other members IRL.

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

A reminder that Christmas is a great time to become some sort of nutter that people avoid talking to, for fear of what you might start ranting about

The holidays can be a really tricky time for so many people.

Whether you’re alone or with others, know you can speak with someone if you’re feeling sad or low. You matter, and your feelings are valid.

Santa, baby, slip a saber under the tree, for me..."

"Ho ho ho," laughed Santa. "I think you mean 'sable', little girl."

"No," she replied in a whisper, her own naughty and nice list clutched so tightly her knuckles whitened. "Some folks got to get got."

What would really be the implications of taking Santa Claus seriously?

It's the time of the year to review the current state of the physics of Santa Claus

these are two slightly different things but the point is that academia runs on two things: helping others and holding grudges. often at the same time and for the same people. we cannot lose this

The sixth photo in your phone gallery is what killed you.

Ain't mad at it.

This is genuinely revolting and might possibly qualify as the sin against the Holy Ghost.

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.

Home is where one starts from. As we grow older
The world becomes stranger, the pattern more complicated
Of dead and living.

Christian: Of the Father’s heart begotten;
Secular: Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Christian: O Come All Ye Faithful
Secular: Let It Snow
What is your favorite "Christian" Christmas song and what is your favorite "Secular" Christmas song?

I will probably always adore "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" for Christian.

And "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" for secular.

I find much of the current reporting on mental health diagnoses to be deeply problematic, and I have expressed this to a number of news outlets in writing this afternoon, including the BBC. I will not link to the articles in question, as I do not wish to give them further traction. 1/

Mind you, with enough organisation you could put together a very good programme of carols for a counter protest, many of them familiar, in their original non-English language. Infant Holy in the original Polish. Stille Nacht. The Angel Gabriel in Basque. Etc.
