Ireland’s biggest independent bookstore - new, secondhand & bargain books - where you find what you didn’t know you were looking for!
A Post Bookshop of the Year!
Pinned
The last 3.5 yrs a small, stubborn team has been rebuilding an independent bookshop, powered by tea, spreadsheets & a slightly excessive love of books.
We’re now officially An Post Bookshop of the Year & our MD, Mick Finucane, has written a 5 a.m. blog about it

Bookshop Of The Year 2025 Chapters Bookstore Dublin
It is 5 a.m. and I am sitting at the kitchen table, my jacket and bow tie abandoned somewhere in the hall, far too wired to sleep. A few hours ago, at the An Post Irish Book Awards, Chapters was named...

This history is new to me, well not totally new, but the nuances are & the hard facts. My Grandfather was there, but strangely it wasn’t taught in depth at my school in Liverpool. So I went down a rabbit hole… looking forward to getting my hands on the actual book.

I have just read this in one sitting.
Started this morning, I am still in my pjs... Some pages made me wince.
Then I laughed, teared up, stopped to think - I couldn't put it down.
The Irish Times has it on their 2026 nonfiction to-watch list - they are right.

Muriel went to a good home - @kelfogarty.bsky.social - so I am only crying a little bit! 😢😂
Proof that I genuinely adore our customers… I have never wanted a set more than this Muriel Spark beauty in Secondhand. I will hand it over with a smile & then weep copiously & privately mourn it like a Victorian widow … dramatic … moi?! 😂📚💚

Ok, this is a slightly mad one … the first 3 Scot Pilgrim Graphic Novels have come into Secondhand … and they are in Irish!

One thing I'd forgotten about reading a long-ish book is the simple pleasure of looking forward to hopping into bed and spending an hour or two with it and the prospect of repeating that routine for however many nights to come.

The sun won't set earlier than it did today again until around Halloween...

.. a thought that might help some others cope with this dreary time of year.

When you don’t know something … ask an author! The difference between mist and fog answered …
Density. It's the distance you can see through them. No, don't mention it. Yer welcome. We authors know EVERYTHING about words and that class of yoke

This morning the mist was so dense I genuinely expected a Stephen King plot twist at the next bend. Which reminded me… Secondhand has gone full King today: Carrie, ’Salem’s Lot, The Shining, Pet Sematary, The Stand…

Also: what’s the difference between mist and fog? ☁️👀

Saw this on an Irish Poetry timeline and I thought I had taken a screenshot of the account name to share - but I had only saved the poem & what a poem it is!! Apologies for the thievery.

Our Secondhand Window has gone full Roald Dahl this week: Boy, Going Solo, James and the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr Fox and more. Plus this gorgeous Mr Fox artwork by Mick Minogue keeping watch with that gloriously mischievous stare. 🦊📚
