Brilliant to see my new novel at No #1 in Easons' contemporary fiction list. Many thanks to all the bookshops and readers who've taken it to this top spot in its Irish/UK publication week.

Bird flu is being painted as a problem wild birds are inflicting on the poultry industry, but it's precisely the reverse.
Where do they think it developed in the first place, if not in the disease incubators that are mass battery farms?

Bird flu outbreak at commercial turkey flock in Carlow
Restriction zones have been put in place around a commercial turkey farm in Co Carlow, after an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of avian influenza, or bird flu was detected there.

I don't often call for resignations. But Sir Robbie Gibb's role in the BBC boardroom coup makes his continued role there untenable. He must resign or be removed
‘Gibb’s supporters say he is trying to save the BBC from itself; he was also heard last year to say that if he didn’t get his way, he would “blow the place up”.’
“a group of politically-appointed directors has forced the hand of Samir Shah, the chair, and the departure of the two most senior people in the organisation. Their resignations should be called out for what they are: political interference..”1/

yes the question is not "are the BBC perfect?"
(obviously not, sometimes they are awful)
it's "if we let them fall, will we like what comes next to fill the vacuum they leave?"
(no. no one on Bluesky will like it unless they are purely on here to hate-read.)

BBC needs to be protected. While they certainly have leanings towards bias on many issues (imo) & can be infuriating, alternative is a media controlled by ratings driving advertising revenue & drowning in bad actors w/ personal agendas - the poison will spread through UK media landscape as a whole
