Spent this evening’ Greek lesson distracted by the rabbit hole thought, ‘Horton hears a ούτοσ’.

🧵I'm honoured that composer Chris Hutchings @hutchingsmusic.bsky.social has written a choral setting one of my #LectionaryPrayers for #choir. It's flexible, suitable for even small church choirs. It was originally for next Sunday, but could be used at other times. You can download it already/...

Yes! I think you’ve hit on it. My discomfort with referring to both types of camp with the same words isn’t that the end goal isn’t dehumanisation, but that if you don’t describe them differently, it’s harder to demonstrate how one leads to the other.

BREAKING:

A federal judge just ordered the release of 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos and his father from immigration custody — condemning their removal from Minneapolis as unconstitutional.

Judge Fred Biery condemned "the perfidious lust for unbridled power" and "the imposition of cruelty."

Possibly, though as I understand it, members of the Japanese community in US had been present there for a long time before they were interred during WWII?

The reason this matters is because knowing what a word means *and* knowing what it can mean to some people can help us ensure we’re communicating clearly about our concerns with specific actions.

I wonder if the ‘ethnic cleansing aspect’ is the key part. Some PoW camps are for holding people only (i.e. Polish prisoner of war camps in the UK during WWII) whereas others are clearly aimed at the wholesale removal of the entire people group(s) out of a country, or their destruction.
January 31, 2026 at 6:14 PM
Ah, I see. Thank you for clarifying.
January 31, 2026 at 6:10 PM
This is a genuine question, though in print it may not sound it*: how does this differ from say immigration centres in the UK, or prisoner of war camps where the aim was containment rather than destruction?

*I agree what they are doing in the US is heinous, this not supporting that in any way!

Were they able to edit In Came Upon a Midnight Clear that because the latter was out of copyright?

There is genuinely so much good music, older and more modern, that I don’t feel a need to use songs whose overall tone is, well, a bit rubbish.
January 31, 2026 at 10:16 AM
Still, I loath this song for both it’s over use and its choice of wording, so isn’t one I’d include.
January 31, 2026 at 7:38 AM
Yes! And you don’t have to change entire lines. Verify makes it sound like someone having their identity checked 🤣 Current parish simply switches wrath for love.

That is…an unfortunate choice.

We sing an edited version when our vicar uses it in liturgy. When I plan a service, it’s on my list of items I don’t use.

We're living through a peculiar paradox: technology promised to unite us, yet religious fundamentalism and regional patriotism now travel at the speed of light through fiber optic cables, reaching into homes and hearts with unprecedented force.
