A long and hard day yesterday engaging with some horrible institutional and online homophobia. But today I am out of bed and on the train to spend the day teaching students to be joyful ministers of the Good News with integrity and hope. This is what it is actually all about. ⚓️✝️

This is what I need today. “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.” Somehow just repeating the angel’s words to Mary and all humanity just helps put things a little bit back into perspective.

I'm meant to be teaching students how to be amateur psychologists in parish ministry... but instead have prepared slides on Cicero, Augustine and Aquinas on desire, disordered love & concupiscence. How much of parish drama is people not knowing what they really want or how to get it.

My experience is that there was a an absolutely huge gap between people’s beliefs about how their immigration systems work and how they actually work, and if you’ve had experience of the immigration system in the US or UK, you’ll spend a lot of time with one raised eyebrow when the topic comes up!
my in-laws were genuinely shocked that I, an English person, could not simply come and work in the United States at will.
Believe it or not, this is only the second most naive and clueless thing I've been told about the immigration system. Number one belongs to my own mother, who was so insulated by my dad that she actually asked me "can't I just bring a relative from Brazil to help me care for the house?"

A successful Francis Day. Interacted with and taught students basically constantly from 9am-5pm. Then came home and set fire to a chicken. Actual fire. A new one for me. Don't know what Sainsbury's are feeding those birds these days. Napalm?
