this is your regularly scheduled discreet/discrete explainer!

discreet - unobtrusive, cautious
e.g. to pull aside for a discreet conversation, to slip a note discreetly

discrete - separate, distinct
e.g. a discrete point on a graph, discrete unrelated events

in fic, you probably want discreet!

No internet then, saw a TV ad for a US govt brochure you could send away for (mail order, from Pueblo, CO) detailing 100 healthcare careers. Got it, read it, decided in tenth grade to be a clinical lab technologist. Got a B.S. degree. Worked in (and loved) the hospital lab for 40 years.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

I think if you have chronic pain in any form, it’s important to not get mad at yourself for being tired. It is genuinely not your fault. You’re always hurting, and it’s constantly stressing your brain out and sapping your energy. You’re doing the best you can, and that is enough. ❤️

New Mexico has a lot of problems, but we do some things right. One way this has helped is that it was cheaper to open it to everyone (we had subsidized childcare before 400x poverty level) than admin costs for income verification.

"What if one of YOUR favorite politicians/celebrities/etc is on the list?" Did you all not notice how quickly we dropped Neil Gaiman when we found out about the things he did? Do you know how beloved that guy used to be and how loathed he is now? I think that right there should answer your question.

Seriously you can’t spend 30 years making show after movie after book about how marriage & kids are LITERALLY THE WORST PRISON IMAGINABLE, women who want a family are a boring drag, dudes are cool & cool dudes never want commitments, then look around & go “how come y’all don’t want marriage & kids?”
Funny how many folks are childfree now that the people who grew up in an era of media portraying women who wanted kids as UNBEARABLY cringe & 90% of “career woman” stories ended with her giving up her entire identity to push out clones of a sentient boot who sort of hated her are of childbearing age

The Republican president is a pedophile who has doubled my healthcare costs and let scores of violent criminals out of jail. But a Democratic mayor-elect wants to make busses free in a city I don't live in. I have never felt more politically homeless.

I think it must be acknowledged that while Fetterman was no champion of-a-man, that stroke scrambled things and we seem loathe to discuss it.

Anyone who chooses Sinatra as their funeral song: you didn't do it your way. Your spouse influenced you. Your friends guided you. Your family made decisions you didn't like but went along with. And they're all having that thrown in their faces as they pay their last respects.
