Bus deregulation was inflicted on the public with no democratic input or oversight, wrecking rural services and adding pointless complexity. Fares went up, ridership went down.

Even putting all that to one side, the whole proposition very plainly makes no sense.

My thread earlier focused on the discussion re. FWS - but I just want to draw this out really explicitly:

The press absolutely monstered Dr Beth Upton in the most appalling way – only for the Tribunal to find that Beth had done nothing wrong, but that Sandie Peggie had harassed her.
Also worth noting, the Tribunal found that Sandie Peggie had harassed Dr Beth Upton in a "hate incident".

The determination to present Peggie as "gender critical" really just shows the bad faith bankruptcy of the whole label and movement. There was no deep theory to Peggie, she was just a garden-variety bigot engaging in crude gutter-level slurs.
Time after time, these tribunals are uncovering the abuse of trans people by 'figureheads' backed by far-right & anti-gender movements. Often these cases are based on dodgy funding, fabrication, prejudice, hate, and the egos of deluded zealots determined to eradicate a marginalised group.
Decision in the Sandie Peggie case.

She was not directly or indirectly discriminated against, her claim of victimisation fails entirely, her claim of harassment fails largely and her claim against Beth Upton fails entirely. www.judiciary.uk/judgments/sa...

While this BBC article on ever-bigger SUVs is perfectly good, it's absurd the way there has to be quotes from people who insist they could not get around without a vehicle the size of a Sherman tank. It's just bollocks. I'm one of three kids and we were all ferried around in a Vauxhall Astra estate.

In the Netherlands, where the Dutch invest in safe cycling, the over-65s cycle around a quarter of their journeys, while the over-80s cycle around 10% of theirs.

Watched BBC 6 o clock news. Just a completely unserious broadcast. Chris Mason, acting like a children's entertainer, giving a prolonged impenetrable editorial. Not a whiff of informative content about the Budget or what it means for the country. Just playschool blah blah bollocks.

It is *flabbergasting* that we’ve had a budget delivered that increases borrowing in the short term, when costs are very high, and depends on spending cuts and tax rises in election year to hit its overall targets, and the broadcast media are more interested in inane process stories.
It’s an indictment of our media that more time is being spent on whether Reeves lied about the need to raise taxes than on the actual substance of the policies announced on Wednesday.

Yeah. It’s fine for a Labour government to do things that Labour voters like and other people don’t. Should try it more often.
Also who cares why they did it? What matters is it's done. (In any case reducing poverty is one reason people vote for Labour MPs so mollifying is kind of the point of elected them).
I'm hearing criticisms of the end to the two child limit, because it was done just to mollify Labour backbenchers, at a cost of £billions.

I remember another govt delivering a referendum on EU membership, just to mollify restive backbenchers. That's costing way, way more... A little perspective?
