Also the only headline re: casualties in this thing has as always been "no Americans killed," so let's maybe keep reminding everyone that 80 people is a lot of people (and that Venezuelans are people)

In a nutshell
Right.

If you want a good explanation of why the American system of government worked well enough for 200 years and then suddenly stopped, it's because Republicans in Congress suddenly started letting their partisan interests COMPLETELY override their institutional interests
a lot of problems wouldn't exist if we had a congress with even an ounce of self interest

really tired of seeing claims that our illegal kidnapping of the Venezuelan president is to "distract" us from the Epstein files. Trump and the men around him have wanted this for a long time. this is a bad thing in its own right, not some attempt to hide from accountability

It's a good thing we never elected those women who were too emotional to be in charge of a country.
WH sources say Venezuela's opposition leader committed the "ultimate sin": She accepted the Nobel Peace prize.

“If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today,” one said.

remember when I tried to get an HPV shot and my OBGYN told me no because “that’s a shot for hoes!”

turns out you can just go to the grocery store and get one at the pharmacy

HPV vaccines are approved for women up to age 45 in the USA & significantly reduce the risk of cervical cancer!

Sunday is a big day here for "It won't work" and "Actually" and "You're so naive" and "Like there'll even BE elections." I get the power of depression and despair, but I'm still gonna block everyone who comes at me with that, because in a contest between your need to vent and my self-care, I win.

Keeping the social safety net as small and as punitive as possible helps to ensure that there will always be a steady stream of people for employers like Bezos to exploit--people in such a precarious position that have no choice but to take whatever underpaid, overworked job they can get.
No. No. No.

Punitive processes make narrowly targeted programs *less* efficient and *more* costly. Because more scrutiny requires more bureaucracy.

Punitive processes also make it *less* likely that people will get aid for which they qualify. Because of the roadblocks and stigma scrutiny creates.

As I'm sure you're aware, the fifth of January is the day of the Schnabelperchten, a creature of Austrian folklore who will check your house for cleanliness. If they decide you haven't done a good enough job, they'll slit open your belly and fill it with straw. Happy New Year..!

There's a bunch of guys I would like to see that happen to I want Nathan Fielder to get HBO to pay to build a fake White House for Trump to be president for life in and we can all pay like $20/hr to call him on the phone and pretend to be world leaders and solve both global hunger and homelessness

the reason people sometimes act madder at democrats than republicans when republicans do impossibly evil shit is the same reason why, if you hired an exterminator to handle a roach infestation and he showed up to feed and play with them instead, your first instinct wouldn’t be to yell at the roaches
