The resonances of this are almost too dark to be accidental.
Govt minister Alex Norris is asked if the govt will take jewellery from people [fleeing war and persecution]. Norris says the govt won't be taking peoples wedding rings but they will seize assets.

In these busiest shopping weeks of the year, with everyone under horrible pressure over money, job security etc, try to be nice to retail staff (who likely have unreasonable sales targets from HQ to make up for a lousy retail year). Far too many stressed customers will behave appallingly right now.

Do NOT license your voice to ElevenLabs.

Their highest-paid actor made $30k last year. Sounds a lot, but that’s from 1.2 bn paid uses - $0.000025 per job. ElevenLabs charge 20 cents per 1,000 words. So they’re making at least 8,000 times what their artists are.

A Broad Left alliance will only work if and when it provides a warm house for principled people, who will insist on a laser-focus on the bottom-line issues that affect the people it's supposed to serve - and deliver in the manner in which it's supposed to serve them.

I am far more concerned about Labour trying to heavy PBP-Solidarity out of the Left alliance than I am about whatever they are saying about Sinn Féin this week.

The party of JobBridge and privatising water need to cop themselves on.

Pretty certain that offering much needed support to 0.001% of the population isn't why the wage for my job has dropped 25% in real terms since 2009 whilst in the same period the wealth of uk billionaires has tripled.

Penguin Random House emailed me last night because their ebook team was going through the citations on TRUE BELIEVER and found like 40 URLs that no longer went anywhere

I had to correct them, and luckily most were caught by the Wayback Machine, but some are just… gone

👀 Irish data centres are now using 22% of all electricity generated in Ireland, more than all urban homes combined & drawing an unquantified amount (lots) of Ireland’s water capacity

Could AI demands be related to recent push to fast-track infrastructure, side-step safeguards & reduce court access?
A new state-by-state evaluation of the projected energy and water use of "AI" data centers in the US. Looks… real bad. Like, "undoing tech sector climate gains" bad.

Strongly recommends immediately ensuring any & all new "AI" data centers to run on existing & expanded renewables grids. Which… yeah.

Watching disabled people around the world mourn Alice is a reminder of the good aspect of the internet. 30 years ago, few people outside of SF would ever have known Alice existed. I never would have met her. The internet connected us all. Let’s honor Alice’s memory by using that power and community.
My social media is wall-to-wall love for the incomparable Alice Wong, and I need more words. What captures sadness and/also affection for a community that knows what's been lost?
Alice could not eat food for years.

And yet at Christmas she would bake cookies and mail them to me—such was her desire to provide care for the people she loved.

With all the recent intense rainfall, many parts of the woods are gloriously full of water.

The forests, bogs, + other wild habitats we've removed once retained colossal amounts of water, preventing flooding downstream.

Between that and climate breakdown, we're creating a perfect storm for floods.

In the early hours of this morning, following 119.6mm of rainfall in 12hrs, the River Monnow burst its banks and flooded Monmouth. The usual river level is just under 2m, this morning it was 6.63m- even higher than the record-breaking level during the floods in 2020 (6.57m). Absolutely devastating.

Her last post was about being laid off from Teen Vogue. Terrible.
Heartbroken to hear of @sfdirewolf.bsky.social ‘s transition to be a crip anscestor AND feeling so honored to have been alive in the time as this brilliant human, and gotten to learn from her.

May her memory continue to always be a blessing.
