I want to stress: They did not get permission from publishers or consent from the authors to do this. (Your book can be microfilmed and lent this way now, only the infrastructure isn't in place.)

I am asking in good faith: Was that practice wrong?
For decades, library systems scanned books to microfilm and lent out those microfilm copies, without purchasing any additional copies of the book. There was even a public program, the Brittle Books program, to ensure that deteriorating books could still be lent. Was that wrong?

I hate seeing comments on bodybuilders' posts like "you know members of the opposite sex don't find this attractive, right?!" because they fundamentally misunderstand what bodybuilding is.
You don't do bodybuilding to attract a partner. You do it because you are insane.

In light of today’s conversation on academic accommodations, I’m going to revive a thread lost to time when I deleted my Twitter profile.

It’s about a bunch of academic accommodations that instructors can offer in lieu of an extension on an assignment. 🧵

honouring von Däniken's legacy by saying I don't think he's actually dead. Ancient Norse legends refer to a god called "Loki", the Liar, known for being a bit of a fuckwit and ... surely it's not a coincidence that von Däniken is both a liar and a fuckwit? I'm just asking questions.

Hey @bretdevereaux.bsky.social a thread I wrote about the History of Eugenics In New Zealand
One hell of an essay. Sascha has a gift for reaching through the page and grabbing ya by the guts and not letting go until the final words are long past.
I just want to take the opportunity to talk a bit about eugenics (unsurprisingly to anyone who's experienced my IRL presence) in New Zealand
The world has changed so much since I wrote this, but at the end of the day it's still an essay I had a breakdown writing, an essay that took days because I couldn't stop crying long enough to write

YES! I've had to put two of my museums on a strict "you may not accept any additional wool uniforms or synthetic wedding dresses. Period." Pictures of your family service-member? Yes. An invitation to the wedding? Sure. We do indeed want to carry your family story forward, but in a responsible way.
(For those not in the know: it's because a museum's mission and the holes in its collection often do not align with what you think of as a valuable antique. Everyone wants to donate grandma's wedding dress, grandpa's army uniform, and a piano. We want the takeout menu from 1992 & ur dad's shoes)
