1. stop where you are
2. identify which 2 objects within arm's reach most & least belong there (objects A and Z respectively)
3. think of the most logical, useful place to move object Z
4. don't do that
5. put object A there instead there

One of the dumbest game design mistakes I ever made was designing the cover art for a game primarily about hunting giant monsters in the ruins of a modern city to look like this.

When I say that we're going to be discovering 2025's hidden gems well into 2027, this is the kinda stuff I mean.

Roguelite strategy game about building a cozy house inside a big square animal-friend and battling other creature houses.

Read more serendipitously. Don't assign yourself a long list of titles to never look at. Instead, be open to the possibilities that occur ambiently during daily life. You are visiting a friend and they are busy with something trivial - open one of their books and have your life changed forever
I've seen a few people posting stuff along the lines of "2026 is the year I'm going to read more!"

My friend, don't pressure yourself. Even as an author, I say this: Read better, not more. Read what you love, stop reading something that isn't working for you. Don't aim for more, aim for pleasure.

1. Chess, but the pawns have gone rogue and are playing by Checkers rules and can jump pieces

2. Poker, but all cards are wild, except one, and which one changes with every deal

3. Scrabble, but words in ALL languages are allowed (got lots of vowels? French word! Too many consonants? Polish word!)

One player suggests a thing that is objectively good. The other player pitches a NYT article headline explaining why it's actually bad.

Alternatively, you can suggest a thing that is bad, and pitch an article explaining why it's actually good.

In 2025's last act of utter self-indulgence, I'm going to be ranking all the depictions of Cid from Final Fantasy as seen on Magic: the Gathering cards.

Cid is a recurring character in the series, usually a good guy, makes machines and stuff. I haven't played the newer games so I think of him like
