I bought myself a set of colored pencils and a sketchbook. Zero talent for visual art but wow this is instantly one of the most calming things I have for myself

People always believe they will be the exception to disability and chronic illness

There will be a cure when it’s their turn. They will try hard enough and get better

They can’t accept that many things have no cure. It’s no one’s fault. Most people will face disability at some point in their lives

With the news that USPS has halted incoming packages from China and Hong Kong, I want to remind people that approximately 90% of the North American supply of vitamin C comes from China. Many other vitamins & supplements are the same.

Its a good time to stock up if you’re able:
Vitamin C prices triple in a year’s time
Air pollution laws in China restrict production.

When I was 25 I was sad I had not written The Great American Novel. At 55, I realize there's no Great American Novel, there are merely the stories I'm the best person to tell. Don't worry about how others see greatness. Work on being the best version of who you are and what you can do in the world.
people over 30 quote this with some life advice for the rest of us?

For folks in California who are trying to get hold of Senator Schiff and can't leave a number with his DC office because the voicemail is full, this number for his SF office (not listed on his website!) is working and I was able to leave a message.
Someone linked this for me and I tried and it seemed to work?

"Schiff has an SF office at 415-393-0707"

Well done for making it to the end of January.

Stop whatever you're doing and read a book to reward yourself.

If you don't have a book, then buy one from an indie bookshop, that way you'll be making TWO people happy.

As this "pause" hits you and your project, institution, workplace, etc:

TELL SOMEONE ABOUT IT.

Contact your MoC, esp if they're a Dem. Contact a relevant advocacy group. Contact the press, local, regional, movement, trade - and not just for an LtE, for a story.

Tell real life stories of harm.

alright you wanna know how to support trans people?

hire them. It's REALLY hard already for visibly trans people to get jobs, even before this shit.

Support places that have trans people working front of house, and make sure owners know that's part of why you're there.

The Trump Administration’s hiring freeze has led the National Parks Service to cancel job offers for seasonal employees. We are concerned this could leave our parks understaffed during the busy summer season, which sees over 100 million visitors annually.

People who don't have chronic pain love to give advice and all that advice is absolutely fucking garbage, just totally worthless.

Now consider whose voice is more likely to be regurgitated by genAI: this dogshit advice, or disabled people talking about their experience

Many who speak about DEI being removed from employment are forgetting disabled people in that conversation. It’s not surprising since most forget about us as a whole but this is going to make it so disabled people can barely get hired or receive any accommodations. We’re barely surviving as is.
