Nothing mysterious, as one would expect, turns out that there are other SARS-CoV-2 related viruses out there with similar potential.
With BANAL-236, scientists managed to isolate just one such example, but we're only scratching not just the surface, but a tiny point of a hair on the surface.

Her husband told her that detainees at Broadview had to get up at 5am to get in line for one bathroom. He often peed himself. One time he had to wait until 2pm to use the bathroom. You could only use the bathroom once a day. He said the agents would beat you if you used the bathroom on yourself.

He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

Once you start thinking of AI as a war on humanity, on human thought, on human inquiry, on human labor, on nuance and critical thinking, it slots in pretty seamlessly with the right wing ideological project, oligarchical political projects, big tech's political projects, etc

The single biggest question in American law today is:
Are lies a get-out-of-laws-free card? Can the government simply lie to grant itself new powers? And is everyone else under an obligation to act as if obvious lies are true, or at minimum, that they might have merit and deserve respect?

man I remember when a white leftist started lecturing me for thinking burrito taxis are an enormous luxury because "they have delivery all over the place in China and no one throws fits about people using it like you libs do here"
Lefties talking about how great China is because of restaurant prices really shows how bad everyone wants there to be a huge underclass to provide services to them for very cheap

It’s been a pleasure working with Lex and everyone in the politics vertical at Teen Vogue. I’m heartbroken that my column, Disability Visibility, is gone. Teen Vogue was one of the few places that published disabled journalists regularly. I just spent the last 2 months working on my next column
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.
certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

When the Epstein Files come out, USAG will simply put out a 2-page memo that supposedly summarizes the whole thing, and states DOJ's final conclusions saying the opposite of what actually happened – right?

Virginia state Senator Louise Lucas (a Democrat who is the chamber's president pro tempore) just tweeted this:
The 25th amendment is meant for presidents who got shot in the head but aren't dead yet or who need to get a colonoscopy, not as an impeachment run around
The president of the United States thinks asylum-seekers come from mental asylums.
He says it in almost every interview where the topic of migration comes up.
How is this not 25th Amendment territory? How is he not an embarrassment to this entire country?

As @esmestallard.bsky.social explains, once PFAS is in water, it's incredibly difficult to remove, which is why many say prevention is better than cure.

I really can't emphasize enough that OpenAI is, as Dr. Gilliard has described in the past, a social arsonist enabling racism, and I urge colleagues in education using OpenAI's products - including ed-tech platforms that incorporate its products like Khanmigo and MagicSchool - to stop.
Again, this precise use case is why these systems exist-to proliferate people’s racist (transphobic, misogynistic…) imaginary at scale. This should not be seen as a “misuse” but rather the product being used exactly as intended.

Folks looking for evidence of SNAP recipients as welfare queens have no shortage of AI generated schlock to use as justification.
