The apologists are straight up ignoring the opportunity cost of that labor and investment going to waste here - a person in the progressive/liberal lane that is cowed by the police means that the lane isn't open for somebody actually willing to take on that fight, while the pro-police side is free
Mamdani apologizing to NYPD and distancing himself from defunding the police shows why electoral politics risk burning people out. So much labor, emotional investment, and sacrifice go into politicians who deliver business as usual when the time comes.
