I think accuracy is important, especially on a global scale. Just because a power opposes US interests doesn't make them good.

China is trying to erase the Uighurs and their culture
Uighurs are neither extremists nor separatists as Beijing claims. They just want their rights.

this is basically what the republicans are doing when they are cutting SNAP and healthcare and implementing work requirements and trying to close libraries and public transit etc. they want people isolated and tired and stressed!
Turkish participants in this study on loneliness cite government control of their lives and policies, leading to economic hardships, thus also the need to work longer hours, as limiting their opportunities to spend time with others.
Democracy helps mental health.
"loneliness, beneath its many cultural expressions, is often a structural failure disguised as personal failure. The solution isn't fixing individuals. It's transforming the conditions under which we attempt to connect."

it's always amazing to me how people whose entire way of life and economic well-being depends on the university in their town are also, somehow, incredibly mad that they have to share that town with that university's students
tbh the entire dynamic of criticizing university housing is one of the most stupid and shortsighted elements of nimbyism writ large. universities are major economic engines! they’re also part of the broader left-wing project for other reasons, like “create social mobility” and “promote education”

horrifying.
I’ve been notified of two more deaths in ICE custody in the last 24 hours — meaning that 25 people have now died in detention since Trump returned to office.

That’s the most in more than two decades. The cruelty and inhumanity of this administration must end.

Transition is a matter of free will and freedom. Trans people are going to do it anyway and you cannot stop them.

We are full human beings with the right to decide our lives for ourselves and no one has a right to stand in the way of that.
one of the main reasons trans healthcare moved away from strict gatekeeping and toward informed consent & GAC is that trans ppl who were denied the means to transition would simply seek it out elsewhere
What did you think would happen when you restricted access to care?

Which is it man because you can’t say ‘be more normal’ back-to-back with ‘be less judgmental’ without a hint of irony because that’s just positioning yourself as cultural authority & then demanding the type of grace that by virtue of your immediately preceding statement you refuse to extend to us
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Thursday that the Democratic Party needed to be “more culturally normal” and “less judgmental.”

Someone said earlier that "culturally normal" is a dogwhistle; for me, it's a barely coded Christofascist motto.

Elon Musk is worse at hiding it but this is the problem with all billionaires: they are a threat to democratic governance. They have an insatiable need to own and control everything. If you want to be free you have to curb their power, and demand political leaders who understand that

Opposing abuse doesn't become easier as you wait for more people to get abused. You have to build opposition to abuse by opposing abuse. If you aren't opposing abuse, you're not preserving resources, you are wasting away as an abomination whose blood is abuse gorges itself corpulent style on people.
The truth is that there are many good people in good institutions regretfully making the choice to sacrifice trans people because they fear for their own survival and their institution's survival...

...and it is incumbent on us to show them that their choice is not without consequence.

This is one of those things that I think is quietly important – when these people are talking shit about cities, Portland or Minneapolis or New York or Charlotte or wherever, you have to loudly say, “no, fuck you, you’re lying, that town and its people whip ass and you’re the asshole”

Exactly.

If you decide to abandon or sacrifice trans people, our job is to make that decision HURT.

We must create consequences, as a matter of simple survival.
I disagree. There need to be consequences for cowardice in moments like these if you want to prevent more defections.
