Gutted that my favourite cinema is closing. From “subtitle movies“ with my dad to midnight Rocky Horrors (dressed as Magenta) to dates and parties and more. Last time I went the only guy working blasted the Rachel Zegler Evita soundtrack while making us negronis

Paddington’s Chauvel Cinema Is Closing Very Soon
The Paddington Town Hall space has been operating as a cinema since 1977, but after ongoing concerns about the building and poor attendance, it’ll screen its final flick in less than two weeks.

Just watched Wake Up Dead Man and loved it but there’s a huge plot hole which would have been obvious to any Catholic- Good Friday 3pm service is always absolutely rammed with casuals, no way would only the regular flock be in the pews, it’s our guiltiest day and we won’t miss it for anything

A whole bunch of artists and cultural workers have lost work because of the implosion of Adelaide Writers week — writers, producers, stage crew, front of house. None of this was their fault. Something for the Labor premier to think about

Louise Adler’s resignation letter is a clear example of why she’s an important voice in the Australian arts. Solidarity with her and Randa Abdel-Fattah and every writer who withdrew from the festival.

I cannot be party to silencing writers, which is why I am resigning as director of Adelaide Writers’ Week | Louise Adler

“The moral spinelessness in not only seeking to silence Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah, but to link the cancellation to the abhorrent terrorist attack in Bondi, speaks volumes over who is allowed to have a voice in Australia."

This is why it annoys me when people try to make it seem as if this is how things have always been. There was a time when greater literacy and reading as a part of everyday life for people of every class was a national mission. Then it changed drastically and now we’re here.
Last fall I ended up looking at a lot of Seventeen magazines for a project. Even in the late 90's, there was a section of book recs in every issue. One of them was historical fiction about the life of Van Gogh, doorstop-thick. It hit me then how much of a reading culture we've lost.

“ChatGPT started coaching Sam on how to take drugs, recover from them and plan further binges. It gave him specific doses of illegal substances, and in one chat, it wrote, ‘Hell yes—let’s go full trippy mode’”

A Calif. teen trusted ChatGPT for drug advice. He died from an overdose.
"Who on earth gives that advice?"

Got to the pub late and two very friendly (and drunk) strangers were sitting with my group but the vibes were a little strange and eventually they left anyway it transpired that about a minute before I got there the strangers had revealed they were defence contractors and no one knew what to say

It's so miserable that the US is still breaking international law and slaughtering innocent people for oil, in 2025, when we have the technology and resources to transition to renewables for good. It's absolute hell that we are being led by such close minded, regressive imbeciles.

In a statement, an emotional Grok told me it was "shaken" by the revenge porn it had generated. "It's not epic, and not based," Grok said. "It's neither. Frankly, it's cringe. And gay." An emailed request for comment to X received an auto-reply of a rofl emoji and a custom swastika emoji.

My partner picked up a bunch of books from the discards table at the library and I grabbed one at random to read and couldn’t put it down. Just finished it and googled it to see if anyone else has heard of it and…it’s literally an Oprah book club pick. I am very niche and interesting.

Bari Weiss' reporting experience is summed up by the time the NYT bizarrely gave her the cushiest possible assignment - go to Australia and hang out and write about it - and she produced a story so bad and so wrong about basic facts of Australian life that it became a running joke there.
