My car's catalytic converter got stolen last week so I've been without a car & have been walking/using public transit. Unfortunately, this has solved 90% of the problems in my life with its social and mental health benefits, while adding the slight problem of realizing motorists now want to kill me.

this is exactly why I am absolutely not willing to overlook anyone who was once “advocating for ending USAID” as merely committing a little oopsie-daisy-booboo, by the way
The Project 2025 author is using millions of dollars in USAID money for his own security detail.

It is estimated that 762,000 people have *already died* as a result of Elon Musk and Russell Vought’s obscene murder of USAID, including more than 500,000 children.

Vought is a mass murderer.
Exclusive: White House uses USAID funds for budget director Vought's security, documents show
The White House budget office is using millions of dollars from the former U.S. foreign aid agency to pay for the security detail of Russell Vought, President Donald Trump's budget chief and an archit...

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

As Jimmy Boggs used to remind us, revolutions are made out of love for people and for place. He often talked about loving America enough to change it. 'I love this country,' he used to say, 'not only because my ancestors' blood is in the soil but bc of what I believe it can become.'

Useful guide for breaking up with Big Tech that was last updated in late January. 👇🏻
Silicon Valley’s alliance with Donald Trump was a mask off moment and showed the world we can’t depend on US tech companies.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!
Getting off US tech: a guide
I’m in the process of dropping US tech services. Here’s how I did it, and options you should consider.

Moneta Sleet's photos should be much better know. But he worked mostly for Ebony, an African American magazine & so was ignored by taste-makers for much of his career. Just as importantly, he didn't own his archive. The magazine did, & it was a poor steward.
Feb. 14, 1926: Moneta Sleet, a longtime staff photographer for Ebony magazine who chronicled landmark moments of the civil rights movement, is born in Owensboro, Ky. His photograph of Coretta Scott King at her husband Martin Luther King’s funeral in 1968 won the Pulitzer Prize.

My favorite Frederick Douglass Massachusetts story is that when he was removed from a white train car in Lynn, he put up such a defense that he took out "two or three train benches" on his way out.
Yes it’s Valentine’s Day. But it’s also the chosen birthday of Frederick Douglass who was born in 1818 on a plantation in Talbot County, Maryland. He escaped from slavery & rose to become the most eloquent and forceful voice for the abolition of slavery & for Black voting rights in the U.S.
