The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

An outstanding talk for our Lichfield Discovered group from author & historian @nathenamin.bsky.social to a packed audience at The Old Grammar School last night. We especially loved hearing how Lichfield may have played its part in the rise of Henry Tudor.

The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.

Saying racist things doesn’t make you racist, insist racists
Racists have claimed that making unashamedly racist statements is definitely not racist, and anyone who accuses them of being racist is a racist.

Imagine TV News covering this farmer protest - banned, but turned up anyway, grinding capital to a halt - if it were about Palestine or climate change, not inheritance tax. Would they present protesters as heroes? Or showing "I need to get to work" and "me auld mam missed her hip operation" voxpops?

Even if there was any sort of academic benefit to homeschooling (there isn't), it would be completely offset by the social damage of being raised that way. School isn't just learning academic subjects, it's learning how to leave your home and participate in society.

Lots of artists have been great at B-sides but only The Teardrop Explodes and Julian Cope (albeit perhaps not beyond My Nation Underground) did enough to compile into a stone-cold, no notes, filler-free, ten-out-of-ten, sky-high all-time masterpiece. open.spotify.com/playlist/0ju...

Did a murder mystery and turned out the culprit was me, in the bathroom with a poisoned pin badge.

Rather appropriate then that my brother has brought me a prison break experience at Shrewsbury Gaol for my birthday present.

I still can't get over the combination of being so desperate for people to like you, and one of the richest men in the world, but also such a complete arsehole that you're physically unable to help people with your wealth despite that being an ultra-easy-mode way to make everyone adore you.

Always good to hear what the RNID are up to
Bruce Springsteen is unbelievably overrated. He only wrote a handful of half decent tunes, but ruins even those by singing flat. The E Street Band play sloppily, as if drunk, and their version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town in excruciating. Sorry Bruce.
