Let us all take this day as one where we reflect on the imperative to strive for peace and reject the glorification of war. And where we remember how much is possible when all of society works for a common goal, and ask why that only seems to happen in wartime.

Like, yeah, yeah, you have your Groundwork of the Metaphysics for Morals and What Do We Owe Each Other and Man's Search for Meaning but in the end there's still no greater philosophical analysis of the plight of humanity than this.

I need someone to figure out a formal syntactic analysis of pronouns used to talk about inanimate persons in science fiction settings.

Just had an email interaction where my name displayed with the wrong middle initial, and I am surprised by the force of my negative reaction.

If I had the money, I’d buy up a bunch of rural radio stations, play alt-country, bluegrass, and old time, and hire progressive pastors as the hosts. They could preach actual Christian values like tolerance, equity, etc. Labor organizers as invited guests. A counter to religious right talk radio

A terrible loss for readers and just...everyone. One of the few that has been stepping up to do necessary and incredible work amid the ongoing nightmare.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.
certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Flu shots are now available to everyone in Ontario, and you can get a free COVID booster at the same time, so sharing this thread with advice on how to take antihistamines to reduce the likelihood that getting the COVID shot will wipe you out.
3. Prophylactic antihistamines for COVID vaccination
Remember up there ^^ where I said the spike protein of the virus is a potent mast cell destabilizer? When your mast cells freak out about something, they drop a lot of chemicals into your bloodstream that cause all kinds of symptoms.

I have a new organizational email address, which naturally is a semi-arbitrary string of letters numbers. I don't like the combo (for synaesthesia reasons) but I take a deep breath and figure whatever—I'll mostly use an alias anyway.

I do not live in Toronto, and yet the Blue Jays are somehow the most totalizing sports experience in my local networks, by far.

There is a style of handwriting (technically printing) that is so characteristic of students who were educated in China, I am always very curious about whether it is transfer from how they're taught to write characters.

On the one hand, I like Scottish country dancing in no small part because of the music. But it's not like my growing collection of dancing music is stuff that's much fun to listen to—all in strict tempo, and a relatively slow tempo at that.

Really enjoying a gardening thread on Reddit where everyone is using their own terms "pill bug" and "roly-poley" (with many spellings) without any commentary.

The twist being that, if you don't catch it beforehand, Ronald Reagan is revealed as the speaker in the closing seconds.

Here's a very niche question: does anyone here study ancient languages and has experience in the pronunciation of Akkadian words? And before a million randos tell me that we don't know what dead languages sound like, there are scholars who spend their whole lives on this stuff.
