CTV Winnipeg aired a neat piece about "lonely houses" in Winnipeg and elsewhere. You can check out the video or written version at their website: www.ctvnews.ca/winnipeg/art...
Survival of the stubborn: The little-known histories of Winnipeg’s holdout homes
We all know Darwin’s theory of survival of the fittest, often misquoted by stale memes and bad motivational posters and a certain hack reporter - those who last are those who adapt.

You’re here to learn what happened to a man who, in a mad (or desperate) act of courage, tried once and for all to stop running away — perhaps in order to hasten his encounter, so many times postponed, with the truth.

Property taxes work differently from most other taxes.

A % increase in your home's assessed value does not mean the same % increase to your taxes.

over a year ago, i gave a talk at the xoxo conference about a mural, a mcdonald’s, and a man. (but it was also secretly about life, and legacy, and meaning.)

finally, i’m blogging the full story, with behind-the-scenes details, and a video of the talk.

i'm making a #QBasic game using mode 13h, 320x200 8bpp. i'm using VGA line doubling to make it 320x100 then horizontally doubling each pixel for 160x100

i use a palette with 3 bits red/green and 2 blue, and "subpixel dither" in between colors. here's a thread of images showing what that's like

Claims of “intelligence” focus on function: if AI behaves “as if” it has a mind, it’s “intelligent.” But behavior is useless when models are designed to pass behavioral tests. Instead, the AGI label achieves the opposite goal: it suggests a human-like experience of being an LLM. ⬇️
